I would love your feedback on a barn build that we are doing. We have 50 Ac in Ontario and are looking to put up a 32 x 48 x 12 barn for equipment storage (50HP tractor, implements, 80 Series Landcruiser, etc). We are working with a local Mennonite barn builder who has put up similar structures for friends.
This is the rough plan:
Site plan and our preferences are dictating size and location (don't want it want bigger or taller). We will likely run water but not full bathroom (too far to tie into existing septic and too complicated for permit we're contemplating).
Rough sketches attached - would love your feedback before we send to the designer for initial set of plans!
This is the rough plan:
- 32 x 48 x 12 stick build structure
- 12:12 pitch metal roof with full loft (pitch to match some other building)
- Poured foundation and slab (6")?
- Two 10W x 8H insulated roll-up doors on West wall (don't want these taller than 8')
- One 10 x 10 insulated roll-up door on North wall for larger equipment (cab on 50HP tractor with loader). Ideally we would have a straight through set of doors, but site plan doesn't really accommodate, so front and side doors.
- shop portion will have benches and tools along East (under stairs) and South walls. Will reinforce section of slab for lift in front of 10x10 door
- service is already run to SW corner (currently powers hoop house at this location)
- Roughcut pine board and batten siding
- Covered 10' overhand on short side for outdoor storage (fuel, wood, etc)
- ideally if budget allows we will insulate slab and foundation and run PEX for future heating
- will insulate both main floor and loft next year
- may include dormers on north side for light and view (depends on budget)
Site plan and our preferences are dictating size and location (don't want it want bigger or taller). We will likely run water but not full bathroom (too far to tie into existing septic and too complicated for permit we're contemplating).
