Metabo 36v impact

Bought one from a member here NIB. Used it for the first time today! Tool post nut on a 18” Mazak lathe would not budge! Had a wrench with a 5’ cheater bar on it yesterday, would not budge! Received a 1-1/2” impact socket from Amazon today. Thing hit maybe three times and zipped it right off. I am impressed! Pretty small light weight unit.

Although I did soak it in PB-Blaster overnight. But it wasn’t rusty.

Agreed. My grandparents were given a 12V set (refurbished, apparently I might add) as a Christmas gift in '09 or '10. The set still goes strong, and holds a great charge. It has actually outlived the 18V Dewalt set that was meant to replace it.

My corded 5/8 drill is a monster. Got it as a teenager to replace a hand-me-down Craftsman corded with a bad cord--think I paid $30 on clearance. It'll drill big holes without a problem, and recently, I used it as a driver on some screws that were tough to put in. It extremely outperformed my brushless Craftsman V20.

Hitachi has changed its name to Hikoki(Japan) and metabo for the USA. I believe they no longer associated to the actual Hitachi conglomerate. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Hikoki has a nice underated 36V line here in Japan. Still lacking in a few areas but overall great. Unfortunately not cheap just like Makita.

Metabo HPT and Hikoki are wayyyyyy underrated. I'm in the process of switching everything and I am impressed. I have both the 18v and 36v impact wrenches, I see no reason to use air again (for my uses).

Hitachi Hikoki in Japan is a full range tool supplier, meaning they offer a Milwaukee (insert your favorite) crushing high-end premium line down to homeowner basic stuff.

Here in the USA we get a smattering of offerings, typically it's their mid tier stuff. Some Japan made, most from beyond, but all usually a good buy.

It basically boils down to Hitachi is still producing everything they always have just w Metabo HPT slapped on here in the US.

Like I explained Hitachi no longer exists, it called Hikoki. Koki holding ltd is the parent company that's owns HiKOKI, Metabo, MetaboHPT, CARAT, and Sankyo Diamond. They dropped Hitachi name in 2018, not sure why as the name had longer history of I remember correctly.

The USA get the mid stuff, Japan doesn't get much more either(I know I live here). Everything is on par with the USA but at a higher cost. I'm talking about 350 to 400$ for a mid torque that rivals the budget brands in the USA. Even use they go for 300$ crazy imo. Just visited an hobby off today, prices where meh on these.

Metabo was purchased by Hitachi in 2015, and merged in as part of Hitachi’s power tool division.
In 2017, this Power Tool division of Hitachi was then sold to the US based KKR (Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co.)Investment/venture capital fund.

Hitachi did not sell the “Hitachi” brand name with the sale of the power tool division, maybe to prevent future trademark issues that have happened after other sales and split trademarks.
The Metabo brand name was respected in the USA by professional tool users, so that was used for both lines for American sales.
Hikoki was used in other markets, probably since it is closer to “Hitachi”, and Hitachi actually sells “Industrial” quality Timber framing and hand held power tools in other markets, which they stopped selling in the USA decades ago mostly.

@Andres26tnt To be fair I haven't checked Hitachi / Hikoki? offerings in the last 5 years.

Back in the 2010s tho they had a huge lineup, and the drill driver section was robust. Offering great specs and build quality. Those were not offered here, I know, I checked, a LOT.

I'm not going to research them rn, but I'm not surprised they don't have nut busting impacts up to US specs yet. Why, because the US tool mfg found a new segment to go nuts on, and it's become a upstaging power war. Not mad about it, gotta give them respect, it's a very American thing. Innovation over here has been awesome lately, they've even learned to mimic euro ergonomics!

They have one now but under a 3/4 line. It's the same body as the 1/2 line.
