I've heard good things about these but have never used one. Are they really much better than an ordinary 4.5 inch grinder from Milwaukee or Dewalt? I wish they had bigger 7" grindes on sale too

Mine runs notably smoother than the newer Makita I own.

German Precision tool versus a chinese made motor thingy.

Porshe or yugo. they both do the same thing.

I have 7 grinders. 2x Milwaukee, 2x Makita, 2x dewalts and the Metabo. Grainger had them on sale for 79.99. should have bought three.

Either are good. depends if you want a paddle switch or a hard on/off switch. I personally hate the on/off switches. paddles are easier to one hand and turn off when you let go because it bites into something and doesn't eat your stomach/arm/leg/ear off in the process.

$79.99 at Acme Tools with free shipping. Just bought one

Thanks for making me look! I was looking at buying one earlier today but they seemed too expensive.

Noticed they are 8.5 amps. The $175 plus models are 14.5 amps.

Careful, some of the lower end models Metabo sells are made in China, not Germany, and have always been relatively affordable.

If you really want a great grinder get the variable speed models.

For the deal hunters always keep your eyes peeled for the Ridgid Metabos that went thru circa 2007/8. They were identical to the good ol' square body Metabos of the day but came with a longer, quality cord compliments of Ridgid and the little lighted grinder logo on the plug (surprisingly handy in a sea of plugs on a power strip). The label will say made in Germany but if you know what a Metabo looks like you'll recognize it.

A lot of pawn shops and private sellers don't know these were Metabos so you might score a good price in the used market

I think the ones made in China are the ones without the red decorated handle.

According to Amazon, the WP9 is made in Germany.

These are the China ones:

Incidentally the "quick" feature is not necessary. In fact I just swapped to a standard nut on my one Metabo that had the stupid quick nut.

A gloved hand is all I've ever used to install and remove wheels (at least w 4.5") and I've done A LOT of grinding.

Good grief that's a good deal. I ordered two of them with a pair of super slicers. $67.99/ea is a smoking good deal.

Do you like the Super Slicers? I bought a pack from my LWS but found them underwhelming. They don't frag but they noticeably throw grit right away, turning to powder pretty damn easily.

They're far from the worst cutoff wheel I've ever used, but certainly not top 3 either. Sait continues to be my favorite

I just ordered through Acme. Seems my order "did not go through" and if you visit the link again, it is now 89. They caught on :)

We stock both Super Slicers and the Sait Ultimate Cut in 6" at work and by far the Sait's have it for stainless but the Super Slicers are a close second from my experience. We cut A LOT of 304 & 316 from 20ga to 1/2" and the Sait's take the cake there. I'll grab a Super Slicer for just about everything else. We do a lot of fiberglass grating work and they slice though it like butter. There is a fair bit of mild steel work as well they get used for and seem to last quite well.

The boss just gave us each one of these last week and I gave mine back. I can see how they will last almost forever when cutting but they cut SO SLOW it is amazing you can even get anything done. It's a neat blade but very underwhelming.

Acme marked my grinders as shipped today !!!

Got my grinder yesterday and used it today. Its much smoother than the Ridgid and Dewalt that I own. Totally worth the money paid. I'll probably buy another when it goes on sale again.

I read this AFTER I had one of these 4.5" blades in my cart at Lowe's today. I decided not to buy it after a couple trips around the store, and put it back. Now I am glad I did. I may buy one eventually, but it will have to be a deal based on what you say.

Metabo called me today (they have my number from registering tools), and said they called to make sure I was aware of the grinder sale going on. I was like yes I've seen the stuff, and I'm not in the market for any grinders.

They must be really desperate to get rid of this over or old stock if they're calling individual people ??

Watch the customer review video in the amazon link. It certainly illuminated his point.

AWD has three of WEV15-125HT's ranging from $142 to $162 based upon their three classifications of things; "used" doesn't really mean used but it can mean open box, returned product or simply damaged packaging (the latter being the most common but no guarantees)

Please buy 'em all so I'm not tempted

This is the smoothest grinder I’ve ever used. I kind of hate grinding, and I know this sounds strange, but it’s fun to use this tool because it’s feels so smooth. Plus, I kind of like the idea of having an anti-kickback safety margin. I’m not sure how well that works, and I hope I never find out, but it’s a safety feature I’m happy to have.

Mine runs notably smoother than the newer Makita I own.

I just got a German-made Fein and it's smoother than any of my 3 Metabos. I was surprised

The China ones (are or were) a brighter green.

I have about a 1/2 dozen Metabo grinders that are used in our shop 8-10 hours a day. Almost non-stop.

They are workhorses. We use to grind welds and do surface prep, mostly.

I have extra cords, cord sheaths and brushes. Change them out a few times a year.

Mostly have the W8 or W7 (115 or 125) I think. 4.5" grinders. I also have two 7" grinders in operation.

And several of the drills that have been great. LT18. And an impact that's great too.

These take abuse and stupidity. Unlike the Dotco and the Dynabrade. Which are probably superior but require more maintenance. And if others are using your tools, they don't care.

I think I bought most on Amazon. I had wondered about the MSRP. Because it seems high. Is MSRP inflated? Does anyone pay that? Still $90 or less is pretty good (I think I paid about $125 for the grinders on amazon). The German ones are well-made. I bought a Metabo circ. saw. PRC made. And sent it back. Didn't use it (didn't know it was PRC) but the build quality at least didn't look to be as good as the German stuff.
