I bought my first Fein drill (through someone here that had a special). Build quality great. I've only seen the Fein at trade shows and was always impressed. What's the cost on them and besides "smoothness" what do you like? You mean it runs smoother? What kind of material are you working on? What are you doing with it that makes it rate higher than the Metabo?
I'm just blending welds on mild steel. I personally do this in 3 steps:
1) grinding wheel (this is the most time consuming step and where I use the Metabos but now Fein)
2) rubber backer and fiber disc (or maybe flapper)
3) ScotchBrite on 4.5 velcro backer
W the Fein the welds just melt away, but you realize it's not FASTER, it's just that the amount of vibration and feedback from the grinder is less RELATIVE to what you're used to for the amount of material removed.
It's like say you're gonna drive 120 miles at 60mph. One is in a bare bones Yaris, one in a fully loaded Suburban w every possible option. Note both drives are gonna take you exactly the same time, but one will SEEM to go more quickly. Now the gap between Metabo and Fein is much closer, and the Metabos are "good" but the Feins are just enough better to notice.
Both Feins and Metabos I've "tested" were running new Sait A24R-BF wheels
The Fein also has a slightly smaller body which fits my right hand far better, but that's obviously a YMMV.
