I just purchased a new Metabo chop saw and it comes with a subfence that gets added to the left side of the main backstop fence.
Anybody know what the purpose of this subfence is? Never had one on a miter saw before.
Thanks in advance.
Picture? Never heard of a subfence before.
My Hitachi miter saw has an extension on the top of the fence that cna be slid to the side for clearance. The purpose is to support tall trim
Hitachi miter saws have a flip out sub fence on the left side instead of a sliding one like most saws. To keep them light and inexpensive the table is really small on them as well as the fence. having it flip out, plus the little steel bars for the bottom, adds more registration for a board without compromising portability. Not right or wrong, just different way of doing things.
Note to OP, Hitachi/metabo are now the same company and they have been rebranding the Asian Hitachi line over the last few years as metabo.
So far they have kept the respective green color depending if it was originally a german made metabo (darker green)
