I have a crankshaft from a 6 cylinder car that I would like to use in some type of metal art. I don't want to use for a pedestal for a table or a mailbox post.

Anyone have any other ideas how I might use this crankshaft?

You could make a chandelier out of it. Mount the rods on it and use that for the light mounting points.

You could make a weiner dog out of it and use the rods for legs.

You could make it into a hose/cord reel some how.

You could make it into a coat rack by mounting it sideways, putting the rods on it and putting a wrist pin through the other end.

Hope this helps

Good ideas from all.

Below is a photo of what the crank looks like. It's about 29" long and feels like it weighs nearly 100 lbs. The weight would be a factor if it where mounted on a wall or ceiling.

slicktoptt's idea of making a weiner dog out of it using the rods for legs sound good. I need to come up with a head, ears and tail.

You could use a metal funnel or oil can or something for a head. Some copper coil could be a tail (just hope someone doesn't steal it for scrap).

I know that you said that you didn't want to use it as a pedestal but there is a guy in my area who started making bar stools using old crank shafts as a center post. They are really cool. Would look fantastic to have a set in a garage. I have seen ones that the guy makes and sells up here at a convenience store and car dealer.
