Metal bench grinder arbor reducer bushing?

My 6" bench grinder has a 1/2" shaft.

All of the 1" wide deburr wheels that I have found that match my specifications have a 1" arbor hole. The only 1" to 1/2" arbor bushings or bushing kits that I have found are made out of plastic (Forney 72396, US Forge 00716, etc).

Does anyone know of one made out of metal?

I have enough trouble keeping the 6" wheels dressed and (relatively) vibration free, so I was thinking that plastic or nylon bushings would have more play in them then metal. Unfortunately I do not have access to a lathe else I would make my own.

Thanks.

Lots of choices there on the McMaster link.

I've seen a lot of people do this with steel, but I'm curious if I can use the oil impregnated bronze bushings since I can get them really cheap here locally?

Will the impregnated oil contaminate, and thus compromise the integrity of, the wheel?

Which have you used?

Thanks!

I've used steel, aluminum, bronze, brass, nylon and mystery plastic and they all worked.

FWIW, a good quality plastic bushing will be as accurate as the hole in the stone.

An oft-overlooked factor are the side plates. Large diameter dished side plates are crucial to a true-running stone.

And yes, yer overthinking this - oil-impregnated bronze bushing contaminating the stone and compromising the integrity? Not likely.
