I lost access to a Jet 48” Box/finger brake when TechShop closed so I’m looking for one. I mainly work with 16 gauge or thinner. I have a press brake for thicker stuff. Craigslist has shown nothing, but in looking at what’s out there, many appear to be the same machine. Anyone known the background on Erie, shop fox and Kaka or others all using the same design?

Also interested in anyon’e feedback on 28”, or some of the small multi use machines with slip roll, shears but I’d need it to handle full with at 16ga. Love the idea of smaller footprint, don’t want to regret it.

I'm in the same boat as you two due to the Chandler TechShop closing.

I just got a catalog from MSC Direct that has their 48" pan brake that will handle 16ga for $639. Go to their web page and look at the electronic super saver flyer, page 38.

Fortunately I have a plasma table but really missing the iron worker. I’ll check out the MSC brake. I’m guessing it the one Enco used to sell. I like the Jet brake Techshop had, but I can’t find it on the Jet site. Wondering if they discontinued it.

I wish more info would come out on next steps for Tech Shop. If they aren’t going to reopen, I’d at least like an opportunity to buy some of the tools at auction if that’s going to occur.

What's your budget? Lots of really nice American brakes to be had for $500 or so used if you have a little patience.

I bought a 48" tennsmith a few years back 16ga for $500, sold it to a buddy for what I paid. Then bought a 48" 14ga cap Barth for the same money.

My point is don't limit yourself to imports. Keep your eyes peeled for a good DiAcro, Chicago/Dreis Krump, Tennsmith, Barth, National and other good brands from yesteryear.

Would be great to be at $500, but could swing a $1000 if appropriate. I even entertained a couple thousand for the electromagnetic brakes.

Do mean used? I’ve checked eBay, Craigslist from Dallas to Houston (5 hour radius) and haven’t found a suitable option. Majority of options have been massive industrial press brakes, or sheet metal siding forms for 24-26 gauge work, most of which are 8ft or larger.

I would take a used old US machine in a heartbeat.
