Metal Building Facade Question

I am looking hard and heavy at a metal building that will be permitted, need engineering, and be built in MS. The area I am erecting this does not allow for the typical metal siding, and they require something else as a facade such as Stucco, Brick, Hardie Plank, etc.. It will be around 50 by 150.

For those of you that have dealt with this did you order a metal building "naked" (with out the typical metal exterior) and frame the exterior with studs (wood or metal) and apply sheathing and a finish?

Does the engineering of the building rely on the typical metal exterior or at the time of order would I tell them the anticipated finish?

Is there a manufacture that you found to be better suited for this type of building?

Should I look at something other than a prefabricated building for this scenario.

This is very common in commercial construction. The first question is what kind of metal building are you considering. Red iron or cold formed is more suitable but any type of building can be used.

Red iron and cold formed do not rely on the siding for shear value. The building would be ordered without girts or siding. Bracing can be accomplished with portal frames so rod or cable bracing can be illuminated leaving room for conventional framing.

Is this building going to be permitted? If so who would be creating the permit plans. This will require some special detail work that not every building salesman will understand.

I have to go back and do some reading on here for the type of building as there are a lot of threads on this I have noticed. A while back when I was looking I did get a quote from Mueller for one with siding. Not real sure what they sell, but it looks like columns, a type of scissor truss and Cee's or Zee's for the roof on the elevation drawing.

It is permitted and I have a licensed Arch. in the area I just started working with.

Reading threads I understand this is your Kool Aide. If interested in quoting please send me a PM and I can go into a little more detail. If not no worries. I have the ability to transport.

Thanks for the reply.

Hopefully the architect has experience with metal building projects. If not you might want to look elsewhere.

I am retired from the business. I would suggest you look for a builder in your area that specializes in metal building projects and is a turn key contractor. They will know specifics for your area such as soil conditions and have working relationships with subs and inspectors. This builder may be a commercial contractor.
