Anyone had trouble getting a metal building insured? So far I can't find anyone who will write a policy on one.

I have more questions than answers.
I have a fairly large one. It's on a farm and ranch policy even has a wood stove but it's insured. The agent took picture of it and the stove.

Had one before that was added to the home owners policy years ago.

Shouldn't be a problem. Keep calling around.

No problem here--maybe 60 miles from Rosenberg--on a home owners policy.

That's the catch....there is no house on the property. If there was I could get it added to the homeowners policy.

I had the same problem with State Farm on my Pole Barn, I bought a couple of acres a mile down the street from me, it has a 116 y.o farm house on it, I needed the house to build my barn (Pole Barn cant be first bldg on property) Now I have my barn, I would like to tear the house down, anyway, State Farm wouldnt insure it because the house is unoccupied (Its also partially gutted) I have some type of builders risk insurance my agent found me. I have my PB insured for $35K with $2K deductible and it is running about $500+ a year. No one will write one policy for my PB, they want all my other policies first. Ask your agent!

well.....the first two companies I talked to wouldn't insure it because it was on a different piece of property than my house. I stopped by the local Farm Bureau and they will do it....no problem.....as long as I switch my homeowners policy to them, the building property is used for agriculture of some kind and pay a higher premium than who I have it with now. Technically it is still leased to a farmer until March although he was done with it several months ago.
They can also insure my cars, motorcycle and RV. They even write policies through Hagerty for my classic cars/trucks.
