Has anyone reversed the slide latch so that the door can be locked/unlocked from the inside of the shop?

Is it that simple?

We have installed a slide latch on the inside of both our doors, the danger being if the door is latched and you attempt to open it with the automatic opener, you could damage the opener. There is a hole in the end of the latch slider on ours, so we "lock" them in the open position with a carabiner through the hole, leaving them available to use when we both leave for more than a few days.

The latch may protrude inside enough to interfere with the way the door rolls up. It may force the door into a cone shape and not let it roll up squarely. Usually the roll ups have an option of interior lock, but it goes on the very bottom of the door. The track is slotted and you use your foot to lock or unlock the door. By being at the very bottom the locks do not interfere with the way the door rolls up.
