I'm in Virginia so this may not help you.

When I was pricing mine, I emailed several companies and after about a week, I contacted the one that had only sent the one email. The others where emailing me everyday and some would drop the price or suddenly had sales or specials.

I bought mine through Arco. They were wonderful to deal with and made my purchase very painless.

I bought a 40x60x14, two 12' roll up doors, walk in door and six light panels for the roof.

First off be carefull of people like General/Anthem and a few other that are actually brokers. They sell varco pruden.if someone says other wise then all my drawing were stolen than because they say vp
Second don't give a deposit until you are ready to commit
Second don't give a deposit by ach. use mail or credit card
Get all the specs together first. eave height, rain gutter get them if no solid surface around the building, rollup door height width and placement, man door placement, over hang, pitch, crane haunches etc.
If you don't they charge you engineering fee after they receive the deposit.
you are better off using a general contractor that does the for a living than by yourself. the other thing to think about is insulation. plumbing, drains, toilets, a lift and placement in relation to the walls for overhead clearance, etc.
Think about every minute detail before you talk to them. You will need a forklift to unload.
You have 2 hrs to unload by puc regulations.
Take the time to inventory everthing.
Measure the doors if you order over size
My 60*40*10 costs were
building 26000
engineering 1000
grading did it myself
concrete 17000 (6 years ago when mud was double. don't use robertsons unless you spec as being tested)
Check the square of the anchor bolts and foundation befor the concrete is poured this is a precision assembly
insulation 5000
Sheet metal and insulation installation 7000 included squaring up the frame after i erected it
electrical aprox. 3000 me doing the work
rollup doors 2 16 x 9 x2" insulated 3000 w/ liftmaster 3800's
permits 1500
forklift 300
get a complete quote
If I think of more I will let you know.
This is a result of my problems and experiance with my building

I got quotes from a bunch of companies for a 38x48 and ruled out those that started pestering me or offering "buy it today only".
Ended up going with Moore Room out of Jamestown, CA ( Mooreroom.com )

Mike Allott was our rep. I think he is one of the owners. Nice guy and very easy to work with.

Anyway, it was installed up out of Livermore one year ago. Extremely pleased with the building and the quality. If I can figure out how, I will attach a couple of crummy iphone pictures.

I had the foundation and grading done and they came in with a crew and put it up. In hindsight, could have the install myself, but it probably still wouldn't have been done :)

Tell Mike I sent you and maybe it's worth a discount!
Good luck,
Karl

Mueller Inc. did me right. Jessie Carrera in El Paso was prompt at calling back and answered all questions. No hidden fees, everything was straight forward.
40'X80'x14' 1:12 pitch, four 10'x12' garage door openings, one "man door",two 10' ridge vents. 24k delivered. More importantly, the drawings are complete with load calculations to satisfy you local county for permitting.

This thread is almost ten years old.
I can tell you how the vents and the insulation work since I am in the business.
The insulation is folded back to where the vent housing is installed. There should be extra purlins installed at this location. The vent is installed over the sheeting with closures.
If it is a manual vent the chain is routed to a handy location. If it is electric then the electrician will take care of the controls.
Hope that helps.

Depends on your location and environment. They can vent heat out of the building. The are popular for barns housing animals to reduce heat and odors. I don't sell a lot of them but the people that have them like them.

They would help with the heat that stratified toward the peak that has no where to go but down. It will also move the humidity through. If you open the overhead doors a couple of inches and open the vents a lot of air will move by convection.

Better check with your insurance outfit ...
Buddy of mine in Santa Fe, TX built a new 40x60 around 8 yrs ago. I asked him why he didn't have the ridge vents like my shop and he said new code don't allow them anymore. Hurricane / windstorm code.

A quick google says that ridge vents are still allowed, but must be rated for those conditions.
Also depends on how you want to insulate. If you're spraying foam, you don't want vents anyway.

Well they may be, but I'll believe my buddy Steven before I believe google. LOL
It very well coud have been that whoever erected his building just refused to install them. Maybe didn't want to go through the hassle or expense of whatever extra was required at that time.
But I do distinctly remember him telling me "they" weren't allowed anymore. That's one mans situation.
Just a heads up for the Danbury man.
Used to be a helluva dance hall down there.
1980 ----- Thursday nights, 5 bucks, all the Lone Star or Schlitz you could drink.
And a guaranteed fist fight in the gravel parking lot ever single time.. Hahaha
That was before all the "tuff guys" started shooting bullets instead of fighting.

My google skills are pretty good, but I'd be happy to ask Steven next time. :)
I didn't believe Google. I believed Google's reference to IRC on the issue (I think there were other building codes too). I should have posted a reference, but I don't know what code applies in that county.

Or "wind rated" vent products were not available here at the time.

That's super cheap. I paid over 40k for a 30x60
