I had a metal building installed a couple of years ago, 24x30 with 10'ft high walls. It's a carport building, metal framing at 5'ft apart. I got the thicker gauge framing beams just to add strength to it.
I was wondering has anyone installed a loft or a mezzanine type storage area in one of these? If so, how did you do it?
I'd like the bottom of the loft to be 8'ft high and I know I have at least 14' ft to the center of the roof.
I've seen someone use 2x4 14 gauge c purlin and welded them on, but I dont feel comfortable welding galvanized metal (building posts I believe).
I'm looking at one corner of my shop maybe 10'x10' to do this in.
Would 2x6's treated work as well?
Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks
