Metal carport suggestions after ripoff

After researching a local well known pole barn builder and giving a deposit, I was left with a police report and a company now claiming bankruptcy.

I’m disgusted right now and hoping for some good recommendations on reputable metal carport companies/builders (local or online). I’ve looked at American steel with mixed reviews. An online search goes well over 50 companies that are probably sourcing from the same place. 30x30 metal with poured slab. Wood is insane right now so all metal is the only option.

I live in PA near the Delaware Water gap area.

Any help greatly appreciated!!!

Check out Versatube. They do not offer installation but a much more heavy duty frame. Pay very close attention to concrete details for tube steel buildings. Most companies will tell you that the slab needs to be larger than the building. That is not a good idea.

The reason they tell you the slab needs to be larger than the building footprint is because the wedge anchors they use usually need to be at least 2" from the edge of the slab for the anchor to work properly. Very rarely are they ever installed that way.

The reason they are telling you to make the slab larger is to make it easier for the installers. They don't care that you will chase leaks forever. They have a clip available for correct size slabs that screws to the base rail and places the wedge anchor away from the edge of the slab. Ask them. The best option is to form a sheeting notch in the slab so that the siding extends below the slab and the anchors move away from the edge.

Mueller would be my suggestion if they service your area.

I just purchased a 30x40 building, and my brother-in-law has a 24x24 from them that's great.

Call them up and they should be able to get you something for a good price.

Something everyone should be aware of when purchasing a carport style building from the big players throughout the country is that the company doesn’t actually get your “deposit”. The 10% you give the dealer is the dealers commission and never goes to the company providing the building. You will have to get the deposit returned by the dealer which may or may not be easy. That is why I suggest you deal with smaller regional suppliers that are more invested in the product and service.

Thanks for all the suggestions - I’m ck them out now... if there are others in the PA area North/East that have suggestions for reputable metal garage builders, let me know.

Pretty sure my security is gone. It seems that taking money from people without serious consequences is quite easy in this country. 2 back to back triathlons in an attempt to get just a small portion of your money back is usually what’s required. 🤦****♂️

My father had kind of the same thing happen. He left a deposit and 9 months later still no date for install. He built his own from 2x lumber and 6x6 posts.
