Metal ceiling installation

I have installed about 5 of the 42 sheets for my 2000sqft shop. The sheets are 17' long. I am using sheetrock lift with 2 1x6x16 laid across top for support. I have trusses 16" oc. I am installing metal roofing screws 32"oc. My problem is I am getting a dimple between the screws, dead center between screws. Am I fastening it to tight? Anybody else had this problem. I screw the lap down first then go back and do the rest. Any opinions are appreciated.

Yes, the screws have the rubber washers. I am out of town till Monday, but here is the picture I have. Notice between the screws about the middle of the sheet...

These are the same screws that are used on the exterior of a building. The 'rubber' washer on the screw is to be compressed so that the ,rubber' washer is the same size as the metal integrated washer head. You don't want to compress the 'rubber' washer so that it becomes larger than the integrated washer head........IMO. You have to remember that the bottoms of the trusses are not perfectly flat.

The screw closest to the camera looks like its not on the lowest portion of the pannel? Meaning the metal is raised in that spot, not flat against the wood.

Do you have a build thread? I have some questions.

Nevermind, I found your thread. Beautiful shop!

Looks like you got the panels on the drive through up ok?

How did you hang the vapor barrier and how did the drywall lift work out? I'm getting close to doing the same on mine.

Did you install the screws in the edges of the sheet first? I've never done it by myself, but with two people we usually screw the overlap side, then work across the sheet to the other side. If you screw the edges first, the center of the sheet sags a little, then when you push it up, it deforms the sheet.

Thanks guys for the tips. I did pancake a few of those washers. I started with the lap side the worked my way to the fat lip. The screws are in the lowest spot of the metal. I hired the vinyl guys to put up the metal outside.

Thanks for the comments about my shop. It's a job, but will be worth it when it's done. I poured 90 yards of concrete around it. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1385319094.802558.jpgImageUploadedByTapatalk1385319110.368894.jpgImageUploadedByTapatalk1385319135.601774.jpg

The vapor barrier is a total b. I had my garage doors up before I put ceiling up because I was wanting to close it in. I bought 20x100 6mm clear and a tried a regular stapler but that was hell. I pulled plastic over the tracks of the garage doors. It helped support the weight of the plastic along with the drywall lift for support. I ended up using a slap stapler, worked much better than anything else. I installed 5 17' sheets solo, so I would say the drywall lift is doing its job, well worth it. Used 25% off coupon at HF and got it for 150$. Gonna put it on craigslist for 75-100$ when I'm finished. Btw, I installed j-channel with a pneumatic stapler. Worked well. Any more questions, please ask.

Thanks for the info. I'm pretty sure I'll have to rig something up to help hold up the plastic also. I do have a hammer stapler,so I'll give that a try. Good to know you can handle the metal alone because I will probably be doing the same. I plan to use a d-lift too,I'll check out HF. Thanks again, awesome shop!

Nice looking space you have, I'm glad that you posted this too. I'm getting ready to start my ceiling and have been back and forth between sheet rock, vinyl, drop ceiling, and metal. I've decided to go with metal as well, I'll be following your project, so I appreciate the pictures!

Beautiful Garage!!
I did the white metal ceiling liner to my 30x40 garage. I used my drywall lift as well. I put the screws in the center of the three ribs and did not have any dimples. it went very smooth.
If anyone is trying to decide on drywall vs metal GO Metal !! bright white, washable easy to install and fire rated!!
I will have pictures of my build on soon!!
