Metal Ceiling - Lap Question

Finishing garage and plan on using metal roof panels for the ceiling.

Garage is 29" long, with the trusses 24" OC. My plan was to use a 16' + 14' with a 1' lap. I got to thinking and that lap would fall between the trusses, so a screw near the seam edge would miss a truss and only connect to the previous panel.

What is everyone doing? Thanks!

My first row I put up was a stock length from Menards. The second two sections we're ordered at a custom length from Menards.

I ordered Sunday morning, order was processed that night, cut and ready to be picked up Wednesday or Thursday.

I'd kill for a Menards. Unfortunately, it's HD, Lowes or a local metal supplier and everything is in 2' increments.

For the slightly extra cost, I'd just use 2 16' sections, then overlap as much as necessary to hit the trusses. Cost shouldn't be that much extra, and install will go a lot easier.

I work for a metal dealer, we can order metal to the nearest 1/8" of any length you want, price per foot is the same. Our supplier has a dealer in your area, let me know if you want dealer info.

The plans on my current shop has the lap screws just screwing into the peak of the last ridge, where all the truss/purlin screws goes into the flat.

Won't the metal supplier cut to an exact length?

That was my exact thought also.

This is what's awesome about this forum, local members that can help each other out. It also shows why it's very helpful to your fellow members to have a general location in your profile.

If the free end is a concern, cut it off! The last 12” or so, not attached, won’t hurt a thing, as it can be under the next sheet.
