Metal Ceiling Panel Size

For those of you who have put up metal ceilings what size panel did you use?

I’m building a 26’x26’ garage with 24”oc storage trusses. Would you do 26’ panels, 13’6” panels or 9’3” panels?

I’m leaning towards the 9’3” panels as they seem like they’d be a little easier to deal with especially when having to mark and cut electrical boxes and attic ladder cutout.

It May sound easier but where all the panels meet it becomes a mess. 4 panels overlapping gets ugly and does change the line ever so slightly. So the mantra is the least joints you can do the better the project will turn out. I have always tried to do surface electric, conduit with lights on ceilings so the cutouts would be minimal. But you can make the center joint using back to back J and have no ends overlapping. Lots of different ways to get there.

Hadn’t thought about a back to back J channel for the center joint. That might work. I guess I’d have to bend it around the rafter?

30 ft wide. I did 2 panels lengths were 16+ and 14+ due to the location of the joist (which was not centered).

If you use 14' 4" and 12' 4" you will have overlap and hit a truss

I'd probably go with 2 panels with some overlap.

However, I'd take a measurement to see exactly what you need rather than order panels lengths based on what somebody posts online. Just because your trusses are 24" OC, doesn't mean they are or where they should be.

Thanks guys! I will definitely wait to order and measure once the garage is up. My foundation was poured right before Christmas but the garage probably won’t be put up until March / April. The wait is killing me.

You can ‘shingle’ your overlaps. Don’t know if you have help or not....I rented a drywall lift and I HIGHLY recommend that. So much easier. Also if your man door is on the left of the building, start the first panel on the right...you won’t notice the overlap seams.

I'm doing 10` in 29 GA. 5 rib, rethink doing electrical box cutouts, somebody on here suggested a pass through hole & surface mount boxes

I did a 24’x32’ by myself.

Used a drywall lift and 12’ sheets, which is a stock size at Menards.

I don’t mind the seam.

It’s a garage, not my living room.
