Metal ceiling questions

I came across some metal roofing, brand new, for cheap. It was a cancelled order. Anyway, I was thinking about using it for a ceiling in my shop. Its an unheated finished pole barn in SW Pennsylvania. Cement slab.

I'm afraid that I will get water condensing on it and dripping. Am I justified in my worries? Or should I just buy it and install it. Any thing I can do to mitigate the water problems? Keith

You have insufficient patience. Lots of people have installed metal ceilings in pole barns. That's my plan too. I don't expect it to sweat at all since the ceiling will also have a vapor barrier and be insulated. The condensation is caused by cold metal(typical on a roof) being exposed to the warm/humid interior of the building. Since the ceiling metal won't be exposed to the cold, it won't sweat.

I have not done this at all but have been looking all over. the people that I saw that put up a metal ceiling have done this...

Have ventilation in attic space, Put up 6 mil vapor barrier then put up metal ceiling and blown in insulation on it. should stop condensation. as long as you have ventilation in that area.

hope that helps I'm trying to figure out my situation with the metal shop and insulation/condensation.

No issues here. A friend of mine did have issues but mainly from him flash heating the shop when he ran a forge. We pulled down the ceiling and installed double bubble foil insulation on top of the vapor barrier and that eliminated the issue.

Highbeam,cyamaha2007. How are you building these ceilings? I have trusses. Did you nail a vapor barrier to the underside of the truss, then metal, insulation on top? I was not planning on insulating the ceiling just yet. I have been building OSB covered stud wall inside, and insulating them as I went. Mostly for sound as the shop is rarely heated. I was hoping to blow some insulation in at a later dat as $$ allows. What are you using as a VB plastic sheet, or something else?

Also I will have at least 1, and most likley 2 vents in the side walls near the ridge. Thoughts? Keith
