I am working on a plan to add stick built upper and lower cabinets to an area of the garage. Aprox 12 ft in length. I am considering utilizing metal framing as is used in commercial buildings for the skeletal frame of the upper cabinets. Lowers would be stick built with common 2x4 and 4x4 posts.

I’ve done a ton of research but not much is written about utilizing metal framing for cabinets. I’ve seen some information regarding metal framing for outdoor patio grills.

Any thoughts, ideas suggestions on metal framing for upper cabinets?

I find it a flimsy pain in the **** to work with. I usually build my frames out of welded tube steel instead. I find 1.5" square .065 tube to be a good combination for rigidity and nottoo heavy. It is very easy to attach to as well

Plywood boxes, no frames! 1 x 3 cleats as needed. Most overbuild cabinets.. plywood is the "secret" (40 yrs carpenter builder). As Walkers points out steal frame, if thats your thing (I use for open shelves). When I do frame I do prefer metal studs however.
