Thinking of adding walls inside of my garage. I've seen people using OSB/T1-11. Should I just use TEK screws and mount right into the tubular steel studs or lag 2x4's to metal studs first?
I would stud it every 24 inches or you will have some flex in the walls that could become a problem in the future especially if you want to hang anything off the wall.
Ok, I understand framing it out every 24". Never framed anything in a metal shed before tho. How would I attach it to the shed? Bottom plate into concrete, and every other stud into the tubular studs that are 4' apart? Sry, I but want to do it right the first time!
Curious if you'd be sheeting the ceiling as well? Are those roofs/ceilings rated for a dead load? Obviously no snow load in Florida. Plywood / OSB would add a lot of weight to that roof... You may want to check with the manufacturer regarding the interior load.
Something like that would never survive a MN winter.
If your existing building is 48" between posts,frame new 16" metal wood or metal
studs add elect and insulation as needed then osb or 1/2" ply.You can insulate
the ceiling if you span the rafters with chicken wire and use the insulation uaed in metal buildings.Your roof not designed to support weight!!!
What about running 2x2's horizontally across the metal tubes? (You will probably want 16" spacing to have reasonable rigidity.) For ceiling insulation, you may want to consider that foil/bubble wrap type insulation since that is what the manufacturers of tube-frame buildings use. (It's light weight.)
I'm not planning on doing anything to the ceiling except maybe foam, I figured it could not support much weight. As the for the walls, I'll do what is recommended and add some more studs with electric and insulation so I have a sturdy place to mount shelving, etc. thanks for the replays!!!
