Looking to build a 30x50 pole barn in Augusta Georgia area soon.
Wondering about opinions on 29 gauge metal which is the company standard and upgrade to 26 gauge.
Why or why not upgrade?
Thanks

I'm wondering what the next hurricane will do to a 29 gauge roof?
That gauge is the thinnest that a lot of companys will install. I know next to nothing about metal buildings, but if it were me, I would not want to do it twice. I would be inclined to use at least 26 gauge on the walls and would consider 22 gauge on the roof.
I hear so often "I'm not made money!" or "That's too pricey!". The answer is how pricey to do it after it's damaged and needs to be replaced.
Let's see what other opinions there are out there.

How are you insulating? I've seen problems with spray foam expansion and 29 gauge steel. It created "waves" in the panel. Never seen it happen with 29 gauge. But might be specific to foam application and expansion rate types.. Not sure if you can mitigate by different application technique.

Not doing foam? Ignore this.

Pretty much comes down to cost. . . $$$$. If it all cost the same amount, they would be using the thicker ga steel.

Couple the fact that most people are looking at comparing dollars when putting a building don't know/understand the difference between the thicker ga steel. All the builder want is a signed contract. . . atleast most of them.
