Metal panel fence question

I found a deal on a pile of 20ft R type panels. I can get the easiest install if i run them horizontal, what do you think?

R Panels are 36" coverage and a little wider since you'll have two edges running them horizontally would yield a 6ft tall fence if you did two layers. If you have a hilly terrain vertical might be easier because you could vary the heights of the panels every 3ft, but you would need to cut them unless you want a 20ft tall fence.

More than a few variables to this question. First what are you intending to do with them? Fencing like asked above, roofing like intended, or siding?

Panels would be to build a privacy fence at my shop. I'm im the process of welding the horizontals of the fence with 2-3/8" oil field pipe, if I went vertical with the panels more pipe/welding is involved.

2” pipe and R-panels are going to make a crappy fence. I have literally built miles of custom fencing and I cannot see any way Of making it look good.

Arrange the panels for the greatest amount of coverage with the least amount of labor and material cost. You might consider spacing the poles on 4 or 6 foot centers, I would guess that 12 foot centers would not give you the strong support you will want.

Around here the problem would be wind, are solid fences common in your area? If not too windy I would think it would work fine.

60 mph wind storms are common.

Put them vertical with a gap in between. Cut them into (4) 5' panels. It only takes (2) horizontals to hang vertical and works way better. If you went horizontal the posts would have to be really close.

Pretty common to build windbreaks this way.

^Agree, that is what is done around here for cattle wind breaks.

Not R-type but corrugated for store and patio
