What is used over plywood under metal roofing? I've been told a rubber film over plywood. I've also been told that this causes the screws to rust off.

Roofing felt. Always put roofing felt or an underlay beneath roofing iron. Helps reduce deterioration of your timber in the long term from the inevitable condensation that forms under the iron. Unless of course you are in an open front shed/barn situation

What does the manufactuer recommend and require to maintain the warrantee? That is THE place you should be getting your info from. Mine was built with the synthetic underlayment.

Rhino (in the link above) isn't even advertised for use under metal roofing, WHICH is what the original poster asked about.

The problem with paper and metal is, the paper bunches up and can be seen through the thin gauge metal 24g.

Tar paper and purlins over that. Or as I did it, purlins over the 3 tab shingles......quick and easy.

Also, if using screws, make sure you follow the manufactures installation directions. Most have screws in the valleys unlike the old days of nails on the peaks.....except when joining two pieces of roofing, then you use a shorter screw just to screw the panels together.
