I just added on to my woodshop, same roof pitch just extending the length of the roof by 10 feet. This is a pole barn with Menards roof tin, how much overlap do i need? I called Menards but they don't have an answer for me. I live in northern Minnesota and i need to avoid ice creeping. What say you?

i dont know the ''proper'' answer but what i did on a project was 6'' overlap and i put a good bead of sillycone between them and screwed em together, been ok so far.

Having a sealer of some kind in more critical IMO than the overlap. Of course you need some but my shop has about a foot of overlap and the roof used to leak when there is a wind driven rain from the side. I had to go up and loosen all the screws and put a sealer under the tin then screw it back down. I doubt that "ice creep" will be an issue. when conditions are such that create any melting underneath, the snow load should slide off.
