Metal Shear Modification

PC06.. cool mod!

The new Princess Auto flier has the 12" shear on sale next week. I 'll be picking one up for sure. I have the 6" model, love it, but I could really use a bigger one. More tools the merrier. I might steal this modification.

I see the steering wheel on the side of your stand. Do you use it to drive your bead roller? I've mocked up a stand for mine and I plan to drive it with both a 1/2" electric drill and the same wheel that I have for my shear above.

Using that wheel is awkward at best, a gear motor or drill would be better (with a foot pedal).

Have thought about this type of arrangement too...

I agree. I plan to use the wheel as an option for "slow" bead rolling only (corners, details, etc.). I have both a 1/2" drill and a foot control in my current design. Mine will be belt driven and the wheel will run directly off of the top roller. I have all of the components. I just need to get it together.

Just picked up a 12" shear today and plan on doing this mod to it.

I finished my conversion today, I didn't have anywhere to get clevis mounts locally so I just made some up. I used a Harbor freight trailer jack and I welded a piece of hex shaped steel to a small tube that I could bolt on to where the handle went so I could use my drill on it. Cuts 1/4"x2" steel just fine. Now to take it apart and paint or powdercoat it.
