Metal Siding for Inside Walls...

Quick question:

We are finishing a 40" x 64" x 20'H garage. We have metal siding for the ceiling (thanks for all the threads on this site!!) and we are using the same siding for the walls.

WHY couldn't the siding be installed horizontally? The walls are 2" x 6" x 16"H with 12" centers on top of a 5'H concrete wall.

Thanks for any advice!

I don't see why it would make a difference if it was run up/down or sideways as long as each panel ends on a stud.:dunno:

You could certainly run it horizontal vs vertical. The ribs will tend to collect more dust though. Which may or may not be a concern.

Mine are horizontal. Look nice. But do collect dust.

Personally, I didn't have it installed horizontally for several reasons:

1. It can make the building feel like a tunnel

2. Dust (as previously mentioned)

3. It was easier to have it cut to length for the exact height of the walls than to have to rip pieces to fit since my walls weren't exactly divisible by the 39.5" width of the sheets so less cuts and waste material.

Depending on where you live, and how well insulated the building is, metal siding used on the interior might act as a big heat-sink when it gets cold. The place won't warm up until you heat the sheet metal and that might not be very efficient.
