Metallic Epoxy Floor - Wolverine

Hi everyone. I just wanted to introduce myself and my project to you and post up a coupla questions. Especially since Wolverine is suspending sales in a few weeks & I think would like to try their product.

A little bit about my project:

I have 750 square feet to cover, however this will not be a garage coating it will be the interior floor of a loft I am remodeling. After tons and tons of going back and forth, I have decided to run with a silver metallic epoxy floor. I'm quite excited & am curious to see how it turns out.

Since I will not have a color layer I need to know how much clear to order to have an appropriate thickness & of course what product to order. I assume I want it around 15 mils thick? I know Wolverine has the clear (base & top) how about other manufacturers?

Any help and ideas would be great!

what metallic epoxy do you speak of? please explain. If you are talking about using just clear, then it will have more of an "old Navy" warehouse look to it and the color depends on the concrete. I just did a warehouse in 2 coats of clear and it came out looking orangy brown, because the concrete had some dye in it. If you are looking to do a metallic, then there is another process that only a few installers know how to do. I call it molten metal but others call it metallic. This is done by using a dispersing agent on multiple coats of different but like tones. Maybe I'll post pics on my next metallic project. BTW, most epoxy manufacturers, distributors, dealers and sellers offer epoxy in clear.

Hi everyone. Thanks for the responses. I guess I should have been more clear. In reference to thegarageguy's question: yes, it is the "molten metal" coating you speak of. I just know it by "metallic epoxy." A friend of mine is in the business and has done several and is going to "see me through" the project. I can't tell you how thrilled I am to attempt to "dispersing the agent." He explained that is the toughest part & where experience shows in the floor, so he will be helping me with that part.

The metallic product is poured into the clear epoxy, and my question was more about if anyone likes to use a specific epoxy for that. I was wondering how Wolverines clear coat was different and if anyone had used it for this specific application. The other epoxy I was interested in was Norklad 100, 2 part 100 solids clear epoxy. Any info on that would be much appreciated.

GarageGuy have you completed a molten metal to date? If so i would love to see some images of your work.

Another question I have is, I will be grinding my concrete surface for preparation. Is there a specific amount of time I need to wait before starting the epoxy process? If I grind one weekend, can I start laying the epoxy the next or should I do it all in one weekend?

its definately not an exact science. i'll take a pic of some samples i have made. there are so many ways you can go with it, depending on the colors you use and if you choose to use actual fine metal flakes or not and when and how much to use. If your freind has done it, you may want him around to help. I actually have done a restaurant in browns and beiges with gold flake, silver flake and rainbow flake. The floor looked funky as hell. Too disco duck for my personal taste but hey whatever the client wants. If he or her are willing to pay i'll broadcast whatever the hell they want into it.

btw, any epoxy works. as far as grinding, as long as its vacuumed after grinding than you can prime right away.

Yikes, yea I think I will be passing on using any kind of flake additive. I initially wanted a polished concrete floor but there are some unsightly seems that will turn out awful, so I turned to epoxy.

So double-checking, if I grind this weekend, will it be okay to wait a week before laying the primer and continuing the job?
