I just replaced my meter socket. We have underground utilities. City supplies electric. they have just replaced the transformer and feed to the house. old socket looked tired LOL. pulled permit and replaced it costing 135 or so. house was built in early seventies. Good move or a waste?

well if the meters was showing signs of potential future issues, then id say it was a good move.

but you didnt post any pics so i have no clue what you mean by "tired"

Just condensation most likely. In all reality that's not bad at all. Doesn't look like there's any corrosion on the conductive parts. I wouldn't say it was a waste but I wouldn't have given you any trouble for many more years. I would have replaced if I was changing the panel or some other work like that.

oh thats nasty. hows the water getting in?

You think that tiny bit of rust is bad? Just go work on a 30 year old hog confinement. The whole bottom would be rusted away, I've seen it more than once.

Condensation in OK will produce a wet spot on the bottom? Damn thats a lot of condensation.

Out here in cali we dont get panels like that even on the coast.

I can't say for sure in OK.

Here what happens is dirt builds up in the bottom of the can and holds moisture. They get surface rust just like the op's picture.

Smart move, nothing wrong with preventive maintenance.

I've seen some bad service entrances over the years, SER insulation is degraded and water gets in during rain storms.
