Metri-Pack Crimper Alternatives

So I need to replace a terminal on a metri-pack 480 series connector in my Silverado. The Delphi tooling is too specific for my budget/space/tastes, so I was wondering if a standard open-barrel ratcheting crimper such as

would work. I know that the metri-pack is a slightly different style (especially when it comes to crimping the seals on sealed connectors), but this handle is far more versatile than getting the Delphi tool specific to unsealed 480 series, and then having to get the version for sealed 480 series later on, and then another for the 630 series sealed, etc.

Anybody have any experience using these on metri-pack connectors?

I use these often at work on both metripack and weatherpack terminals without issue. Two step process, but it really isnt that slow.

I find crimping open barrel terminals with a ratcheting crimper clumsy. Could be I need more practice though

That "GM Delphi Weatherpack Crimper Tool" is also known as a "T-18 crimper"
It is used for the Metri-pack, Weatherpack, Delphi, Packard" connectors and non-insulated connectors.

Mine got plenty of use when I redid a harness, it works great.

As others have pointed out, it can do seals as well.

Thanks for the heads up! I had seen those at waytek, but was put off by the fact that they specify it for 150 and 280 series. Do you happen to know if you used any of the larger 480 or 630 terminals when you worked on your harness? Or is this terminal size the same so it doesn't really matter?

Now that I've asked, I might try to go tear apart a spare metri-pack and see...

I bought this crimper on a buddies recommendation and it has worked flawlessly. I paid $5 for it a few years ago and now it's $8.50 but probably the cheapest price wise that works. http://www.frys.com/product/1922790?site=sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG

I have a multi-die ratcheting by the same iWiss/iCrimp manufacturer that I like for open barrel 630 type unsealed, but I haven't found a ratcheting for 280 sealed.
