Metri-Pack vs Weather-Pack usage on OEM wiring harnesses?

Hey all,

I've been slowly working on a stroker build for my 2001 Jeep XJ, and my attention is finally turning toward cleaning up the factory wiring harness (namely the fuel injector loom) that has suffered damage from years of intermittent exhaust leaks and 240,000+ miles of extended heat exposure. In doing so, I'm focusing my attention on the fuel injector connectors first due to several broken clips and long-broken locking tabs.

Little did I know I opened a can of worms that has nearly caused me an aneurysm.

Does anyone have experience with identifying characteristics of each? I know Metri-Pack is more or less the current standard for OEMs (as of the early 2000's, if I'm not mistaken), but I don't want to spend $200+ on terminal assortments unless I'm reasonably confident I'll be getting what I need.

True, that covers the connector style (EV6), but I’m looking at the actual crimp-on terminals and seals. Seems like the OEM harness crimped-on terminals are Metri-Pack (based on photos), and the aftermarket EV6 connectors I purchased use Molex MX-150 terminals and connectors...

Looks like I’m going to spend a few hours on Del City piecing together my own component kit.

Very nice, thanks for the offer - any chance you offer the same in Metri-Pack or Molex GT/MX-150? I basically want to establish a garage kit for pretty much any weather-proof/sealed electrical connector I may come across. Seems like BMW and Mopar/Jeep predominantly use Metri-Pack these days, but a lot of aftermarket connectors are going toward the Molex side. Haven't seen any OEM uses of Weather-Pack just yet, but I could be mistaken (they're typically cylindrical terminals, right?).

We recently came out with a rather affordable Weather-pack assortment.
We can send you a set and you can let us know if they work for your application. PM me an address

Astro 9476 209pc Weather Pack Connector & Seal Starter Kit

This would be awesome for repairing applicator harnesses and working on our older semis. Do you offer replacement plug seals (the ribbed one around the male plug half)? It seems like every spring, our fertilizer dealer brings us an applicator with harnesses that have been pulled apart, or that have had fertilizer in the plugs. I have to spend a few hours hunting for the right WeatherPac bodies to get it back together.

Though Del City is in my back yard (almost literally) I purchase most of this stuff from Waytek Wire. Better prices, even with the included minimum quantities. Otherwise Mouser/DigiKey/Allied/etc. Octopart is also good for searching.

Don't be afraid to invest in a good crimping tool for your terminals. Nothing worse than slicing the wire seal with the sharp edge of an improperly crimped terminal - you won't find it for years until it corrodes off!
