Greetings all, long time lurker, just recently registered to start picking up some used stuff in the classifieds.

( Disclosure: I did search before asking this, but didn't find sufficient info that would make this thread unnecessary)

Anyways, I am looking for a quality 3/8 drive metric torque adapter set. I found this set:

However, it's made in Taiwan ( not necessarily a problem, but I'd prefer USA if possible ).

Proto makes an SAE set in the right price range, but I couldn't find a metric set.

Any ideas or recommendations?
Has anyone tried the set I linked above?

those two are prolly the exact same set...most Mac stuff is re branded overseas stuff...and it's prolly good quality...but the prices are insane

I would give the Motion Pro Adjustable Torque Wrench Adapter a shot: LINK. Even though it is made in Taiwan, it has gotten great reviews on Amazon. It will allow you to use your existing metric combination wrenches with your 3/8" drive torque wrench.

I just ordered a set from Northern Tools. If you can wait a couple of days I'll let you know if the look too crappy when they get here.

Well, I guess I could buy the 17mm and 15mm and 14mm and 12mm and 10mm separately, but then I'm pretty much at the entire set.

I considered this, and I might still go this direction. Thanks for the reminder.

The added length of the torque adapters is appealing though, and would help with clearance and leverage on certain bolts. I'm not considering the torque adapters solely for use with a torque wrench, but additionally to assist in clearance removing/torquing inconveniently located fasteners.

And the flare crowfoots seem to be heftier outside the broaching, yielding clearance issues when the bolt head is right up against a perpendicular surface.

One particular application is the two bolts that hold the clutch slave cylinder on a newer subaru. Can't really get in there with anything without removing the starter, and the bolt heads do not leave clearance for anything but an open end due to the proximity to the transmission.

And was going to try to use a socket along with my shorty offset wrenches, but it's hard to keep the whole "assembly" together.

Interesting idea, I hadn't seen this. This might work for many of my desired use cases, although I still don't think I could get to the clutch slave cylinder bolts. For the price, I might have to pick one up just to try it. Thanks!

Just got them. It's the same T&E Tools set that Amazon has. But, I paid $80 on sale. T&E is an importer from all over the world, so quality varies I guess. No clues as to the actual country of origin. These adapters appear to have decent workmanship; broaches centered, good and consistent forging, nice finish and good chrome. Of course, I'll need to see if the metal is strong and finish holds up in use...

Set goes from 6 mm to 19 mm skipping 18 mm.

Thanks for the review! I think I might risk it and pick up a set. Maybe I won't use them as often as I think I will, but I really like tools.

I bought Cornwell torque adapters in both metric and sae. They go on sale all the time for around 80 a set. They are handy to have around whatever brand you choose. I use the hell out of mine getting to fasteners that a ratchet and socket are to tall to get to, also use them around hydraulic hose flanges.

Ah, thanks for the info. Where did you find them on sale?

I can't seem to locate sets in the cornwell catalog (only individually), but there is a seller on ebay that has a new metric set for $100.

And by searching Google for "adaptor" instead of "adapter", I realized that snappy also makes a set of metric:

It's expensive though, and skips 17mm, which I need. And it has 16mm--I have never seen a 16mm bolt. Is 16mm a common size? I only work on Japanese vehicles.

part numbers for full sets

metric- CTG102MTAS

standard- CTG92TAS

The website doesn't list a COO. I would have to look at mine tomorrow when I get to work to see if they have USA stamped in them. It just so happens that the Cornwell guy stops at the shop tomorrow so I can ask him about who makes them. I know they aren't on sale this month. I run into 16mm a bit working on heavy equipment.

EDIT- The ones I own are not stamped USA. The Cornwell guy said their torque adapters are farmed out to a different company to make. Without looking at Northern Tools torque adapters I assume they are probably the same as Cornwells. No sense in sepending the extra money unless you need the warranty.
