Metric vs. SAE Std tool use

Old cars, trucks, tractors and equipment.. SAE
Daily drivers, and modern stuff.. Metric

Truly about 1/2 and 1/2.

I sold the only American car I've ever owned - a 1933 Franklin Olympic Convertible Coupe about 3 years ago, so no more need for SAE tools.

The only countries that haven't adopted the metric system are the good ole US of A, Liberia and Burma - so we're in good company. Blame rests squarely on Ronald Regan for killing Jimmy Carter's mandate for adoption of the metric system in 'Merica.

LOL... you might give the public a little blame also. Many people hate it and would never have switched, then or now.

America does use the metric system just not exclusively, just look around.

I'll say about 75% SAE for me. Work on a lot of tractors and farm equipment. Older ones are all SAE. Newer ones are a mix. Use a lot of larger SAE sizes as well. Plus the pick ups and trailer trucks are a mix of both as well.

I'm about 70% metric here. If there was a 60/40 option I would have gone that route. Most of the stuff I work on is newer and therefore metric, but the majority of aftermarket parts I put on them use SAE hardware.

Im curious are all boeing aircrafts SAE and airbus all metric?

I don't know. I would guess all commercial aircraft are SAE, but I really have no idea.

Our fleet consists of Embraer 120's and E-175's from Brazil and Bombardier/ Canadair 200, 700 and 900 from Canada.

so they'll keep making cameras with 1/4-20 tripod mounting threads forever, probably.

Mostly true, but I've found a few exceptions. (SWMBO is a camera fanatic, and has loads of old ones...)

But I agree, the 1/4-20 is here to stay.
