I have an older meyer snow plow that works great except for when I turn it hard to the left. It wants to stick and not go back to center or right. If i have someone push on it or trap the right side against a solid object (post) it will "break" free and work fine. If I do not go far left it works fine from right to left and left to right. Going hard right and coming back to left works fine also. I put new hoses and cylinders on it this fall and new fluid in.
I think it could be rust on end of A frame curved bar pinching it. But wonder could it be something with a solenoid? I thought they basically either work or do not work so i doubt that. I read on meyer trouble shooting site something about replacing the quick connect fittings on the pump. Everything hydraulic from there is new. Anybody got any words of wisdom?

The solenoids are notorious for sticking on older Meyers plows.

Easy to replace, though. Good time to flush the old, contaminated fluid, too.

I had that happen years ago. I had to push against a solid object while operating control to free it. I think I was also able to loosen the quick connect and loose the pressure binding it. Good idea to do the trouble shooting and find the culprit. Could it be moisture frozen in the system? The real fluid has some additives. I ran dextron in mine.

Update: When we rebuilt the plow side, we replaced all of the bolts, the rams and hoses and the fluid. I used Meyer brand plow fluid. I checked on binding and movement this morning. It moves fine when I have it lifted and rotated it back and forth and could not get it to stick. It apparently is only sticking when I plow with it angled left. I only plow my own 24 space lot and a couple of drives, nothing hard or rough. I noted on the curved glide bar that it is rough on the sticking side by the end. Before we rebuilt it, the rams were bad and causing the problem. I am thinking it is binding on that rough part when it gets pushed hard to the left. I will grind off the rough stuff to see if that helps as soon as it warms up a little and then grease it good.
I understand solenoids sticking but since it is only in one position, would that still apply?

I would tack weld a piece of 1/2" or so flat stock where the plow stops against the frame. That would keep it from going so far to the left. See if that fixes it without spending a bunch.
