Hey all. I'm looking for opinions on the current 3/4" guns out there.

Is the mg1200 hit and miss reliability like its smaller brethren? How does power to the other 3/4" guns compare?

I have an awp050 and love the thing. Seems like other than handles breaking here and there they seem to hold up alright? I read another GJ thread from '14 and everyone seemed pretty much in love with the awp075 and proto equivalent.

Is the 2145 still the top tier 3/4" offering from IR? Whats yalls opinions of it?

With price being completely ignored, what would yalls pick be?

I’ve had the 2145 in my watchlist not sure how it compares, but I have most of IR Ti-max line up and have had no major complaints ( except for the hammer head.) All have been work horses and I work on everything big and small... hope to hear some firsthand experience from this thread.

I have the proto and slightly prefer it over ir. It's more comfortable and seems stronger.

Never used the mg1200 but I've used an mg725 a lot and, although it's been reliable, I don't really care for it. Not sure why.

I have the 725 as well as the awp050. It seems to me like the hammers hit harder in the awp, while the 725 feels more muted. Though it must not matter much how the hammers feel to me, because both guns are real close to tied for actual power.

The other reviews of the awp075 I've read seem like it is a stout unit.

If I have an opportunity to get the mg1250 for $450 new, should I go for it or just go with a 2145 for similar price?

I have the proto j175wp that I bought from a member here and absolutely love it. I prefer it over the ir. Never used the mg1250 but the 725 doesn't impress me.

Biggest problem with MG1250 is its poorly balanced. It just doesn't feel good lugging it around. If you want something heavy get a IR Titanium 2925 so at least you'll have a power advantage to justify the weight. For every day use the 2145 is more pleasant to handle.

Thanks for the input y'all. CRF, I've been looking for power comparisons between the mac/proto 3/4 gun and the 2145. What is your experience between the proto and the IR for max power?

I figured the 1250 would be meh compared to the other two, I just wasn't sure if getting it new for $450 instead of $900 would be a factor, which would put it identical cost to the other two.

I have the 2145qti and i dont have any complaints, i got a good deal on it. Wasnt looking for the quiet gun in particular. It is light for a 3/4 and was half the cost of snap on mg1200. I am a big snap on fan but not a fan of their impact guns. The only mg gun that has lasted was my 725, and i believe i got lucky considering i watched others i worked with have repeated problems with theirs. Especially with longevity even when frequently oiled. My mg31 got retired to him because the trigger was frustrating. I have the same complaint with my mg725 and the 1200s i have used. IR composites are unmatched when it comes to the triggers being manipulated during times when you want to turn something slower. Even my 2145 trigger has a full range unlike the snap on guns where you try to feather the gun and air comes out, as you pull more the gun comes to life at 1/2 to 3/4 speed when you want it much lower. This is just my personal experience. All of these options have breaking power though for the record.

In that price range would get one with support like tool truck to have coverage/warranty on it.

4x4 I have noticed the featherability issue you speak of with my 725 as well. I got it used 6 months ago for $100 from my cornwell guy and so far its been trouble free.

I've wondered if a percentage of the problems with the snapon guns stems from many not getting oiled due to confusion with the sealed hammer case and the air motor. I know my snapon guy has touted the "sealed case, no need to oil". I know another coworker with a 725 whos had nothing but trouble, but his gun has never seen the first drop of oil either.

Is the matco 2334 the same as the 2145? They "rate " it at 1800 ft lbs but I know they can claim whatever they want.

For what it’s worth I have the mg1250 and it did whatever I asked from it for about 2 months lol. Then completely stopped spinning. I noticed a brown substance on the trigger switch, and when I got the gun back from snap on they reported it had a “mud like substance” inside of it. So I don’t believe the failure was the tools fault, I think I had a genuinely awful air supply. I did oil everyday though

Haha snap on guy feeding it to you there for sure. I bought mine brand new and the mg31 brand new. Almost 1k spent between the two and was unimpressed. Mg31 got replaced by ir titanium 3/8 couple years back. The 725 was like that out of the box. Like i said the gun has power still around 7 years later but i think i just got lucky because i watched everyone else go through them in 3 yrs or so. I will be up for a new 1/2 here soon. As for matco guns, they still look like ingersol but i recall asking the dealer i had 3 yrs ago if they were IR and he said no, but dont remember the other company he mentioned. I do have an older matco 1/2 in composite that still works well. I always joked it was a "matcosol rand" lol :bounce:

In all honesty I'm not sure. They both get the job done. The proto "feels" more powerful but that may be just because it feels so much better in every other way too.
