Poisons usually allow the mice to return to their nests were they die. I used poisons once only to find the dead mice in a tool drawer and it smelled.

I tried the dryer sheets first time this year early and so far so good. I believe you have to routinely replace them.

The key is to remove all food sources and any cloth, cardboard, paper etc..that they use for bedding. Thats is a bit difficult in the garage though.

We bush hog behind one of our buildings about twice a year and always get mice in the building when we cut.

Dryer sheets work well inside vehicles and boats. My wife used those ultrasonic electronic repellant things from Wal Mart and they worked very well for her mice. I watched mice crawl over the ones I tried.

Somebody else told me to just turn on a radio in the building, leave it on a they would leave in a few days. Either they didn't like the classic rock station I had it on or something but within a couple of days they were gone. Radio has been on every since and I've set some peanut butter traps a few ties since and not caught anything. This was 2 years ago.

Grrrr......

Got the summer tires put away, as well as 3 bikes. Motorcycle I'd parked in the shed,

Mice had decided to make a home in the air box of my snowblower, which I did not inspect prior to starting. It started 2nd pull, but didn't make it all the way to the garage (about 200'). When it was running funny is when I decided to take the cover off the air box. Mouse nest. D@MN!

I'll be adding taking apart the carb to the list of things I need to do. Wonder what damage will be done cause of the dirt going through. Snowblower airbox doesn't have a filter by design.

Honda HS1132.

I am a fan of the sticky trap. Relatively inexpensive. The problem I had with poison was if they ate it and died under a tool box, inside a cabinet or wall it smelled pretty bad.

I know they sell electronic zappers but it seems to me I remember an old garage trick that zapped our buddies at the gas station. I can't remember how it was done but a distributor capacitor was involved. Anyone else know what I'm talking about? Maybe we have to cross thread over to the electrical threads.

Another cheap deterrent is keep a radio going all the time 24/7. Good to keep out mice and also crooks as they don't know if you'll be back soon.

I wonder if having windows in the garage help. I have one that has windows and a car. less mice then the garage without windows and I find nests in the car.
