Do you guys have any tricks for removing mice from a recently cleaned attic that has fiberglass insulation. They aren’t taking to the standard traps despite using peanut butter, cheese, and/or the bait goo.

location is one of the key tricks. Place the trap next to a wall. Mice almost always travel along the base of a wall or board. They feel safer.

I use a dab of PB and then stick a nugget of dry dog food on the PB. Works well for me.

Cheese has never worked for me

I spend too much time watching "Shawn Woods" youtube channel about catching rodents. Lots of ideas for trapping there.

Also don't forget to locate the point of entry, don't want this to become a reoccurring issue.

These are the best traps I have ever used. https://www.lowes.com/pd/TOMCAT-2-Count-Press-N-Set-Mouse-Trap/50259657 My Son had an infestation at his house in college. Caught 14 with these. Like said along the baseboards. You could also sprinkle some baby powder and see their foot prints and find their paths. The electric trap mentioned work awesome for us when we had a rats in our yard after some construction disturbed their home. Peanut butter, the bait goo, and we also used a piece of Rollo when they invaded the bag. Jim

Half a tootsie roll warmed in your hands and molded around the trigger of an old school Victor trap

I have used a plastic cocoon to invite them inside . Specifically a clear chicken roaster container ( Clear Plastic Costco BBQ Chicken Container ) with a 1" hole for an entrance with two Victor traps inside , peanut butter on each mechanism and a row of sunflower seeds on the two mechanisms of the traps . Sometimes the mice are dead from the noise of the snap or caught by both traps .

Had mice in the insulation over my garage ceiling. Placed two of the TomCat glue boards in the attic. Put a small piece of pretzel and a small peanut on each board. Caught 4 mice, two on each board. Replaced the boards and 10 days late the new boards were still clean. I don't fold the boards into a box like they want you to, I just lay them out flat. I buy a pack of 4 at Wally World for about $4.

Use a small live trap that has a door on each end. I've only had 2 get away. I bait with peanut butter, but I won't disclose how I dipose of them to keep everyone happy.

Combo of traps.

Glue traps unbaited
Old school victor with the gel bait
Tomcat walk ins with the solid bait
Live trap with sunflower seeds and peanut butter
5 gallon bucket trap

Varied placements. Normally the glue at entry points, snap traps in the corners, walk ins near any point that seems like they’re hanging out. Live traps between glue downs and corners.

5 gallon bucket if I catch more than 3 or 4.

Old school snaps and glue traps tend to be the most successful.

I’ve actually never caught a mouse in the live traps. Always catch chipmunks in those.

I use a live trap. Once you got one dust it with UV powder in a baggie and set it free. Then go back at night and follow the trail with a UV light, you can see where they get in and then close it up.

Best for me is a combo of things: Tomcat Meal Bait (one feeding does it), Electric Zapper traps baited with the above (they LOVE the stuff), and once you have them under control a Good ultrasonic repeller (one with multi frequency and changing frequency).

And closing off entry points, but those little suckers sure seem to find their way in. I run a Motel California. They leave in the trash can...
Good luck,
Scott

Genius.

Where do I get this UV powder?

I just use Winnie. She may sleep sixteen hours a day, but she spends all that time dreaming of murder.

Bonus GJ content: Aero 1946 stool makes great side table.

I use decon.

It's more fun when you see a mouse in the chicken coop and the chickens notice it.

Have had great luck with 5-gallon bucket trap. Built one each for my shed and garage, caught 14 mice in three days, left the traps in place, caught one more two months later that managed to sneak in, nothing since but also no evidence that they are around. No poop, shredded paper, nothing.

mark#3......what’s a 5 gallon bucket trap!!!!!!!? Oh grasshopper! Google is your friend my boy. I like using caramel or a raisin. Make sure you push the bait under and into the trap trigger.

I have a 1880's house, with a cobblestone foundation. There is no way that I could locate and block all the possible mouse entry points.

I built the 5-gallon bucket trap and only caught one mouse in a year. I have been using the D-Con made square plastic bait boxes, and something seems to be using the bait. I have to replace the bait blocks every 6 months, or so. The D-con stations in the cellar are different then the ones in the house, proper. Upstairs the bait last a over a year. I don't know if the difference is because the mice eat the bait in the cellar, or it evaporates/dissolves. The cellar is very damp.

I occasionally see a garden snake in the cellar, and I leave them alone as I think ( hope ) they get after the mice.
