That's a pretty good deal if they are in excellent shape. I find 6" a bit tricky to get the right feel when checking parts. I can't imagine trying to hold a 54" pair and getting a good feel. :wtf:

I do see he has a base to clamp the mics in though, but it would still be tough I think to even hold the part to check it in the mics.

Anytime I have seen mics that big used it has been 2 guys operating it. I have used up to 18" and that was a pain. I am looking to have a set up to 12" for myself, I almost bought a 32" mic a while ago to hang on the wall of my garage.

I use 18" over pins and balls regularly and I can't even imagine trying to get a good feel on something round with those 54's

saw them used used every day in the last machine shop i worked in.

one building was dedicated to roll machining, OD grinding, and machining crane cable drums for steel mills, as well as a heat treat dept, weld shop, and an old converted lathe that ran an automatic submerged arc wire feeder to overlay (build up) worn out roll bodies.

the largest lathe we had was 30' bedways, 60" chuck.

Use them all the time on for air compressor pistons. average about 30-48" in diameter.

same, used to seeing large calipers and mics. we had similar size lathes and machines to handle steel molds for making 20' long, 48" diameter ductile iron pipe
