$79 for a year of Office 365 Personal apps and a free bonus Surface Pen. This is a great deal if you like using the Office apps and have been wanting a Surface Pen (has over 4,000 pressure points). The pen itself goes for $99 normally. If you have multiple users in the house, the Office 365 Family would be a better deal (even without the free pen) since it allows up to 6 users of the apps. Office 365 Family is $99/year.

I imagine the pen would be awesome for CAM/CAD and design programs. I was going to buy the package with the charcoal black pen but it sold out before I pulled the trigger, so I bought the one with the Cobalt Blue pen and it's sold out now. 2 colors are left.

If you don't want the pen, it might be a cool gift for a family member or friend. Or you could even re-sell it (they seem to be going for like $60 on ebay) to fund your year of Office 365. :)

I tend to keep a laptop in home use for ten years, so it works a LOT better for me to buy the standalone Office package and run a local copy. Even my work PC has a local copy of Office, with Office365 as an add-on.

A deal on a $70 pen isn't enough for this Office user to sign up for cloud-based! But it's probably an OK deal for those who are inclined to go into the cloud.

The pen only works on computers that have the layer in the screen to enable pen use I thought? Anyway, I love my surface pro 4. It's getting old and ready for replacement, but I may get another surface for pen alone!
