I'll be picking this up for the home office for sure. A bit confusing about the licensing, though; if I buy a copy and install it on one of my computers and then have to reformat or replace that computer, do I lose that license?

As in, is the license only as good as long as the Windows installation?

Good question. I bought office 2016 through a similar price my work gave years ago. I have reinstalled that on the same and other computers in my household. However, my guess is that they could be more strict in newer versions. Newer computers have identification built into them. When I reinstalled Windows on a new laptop, Microsoft was able to automatically detect the license associated with it. There was no need to type in a key like the old days. So my guess is that worse case, you would probably be able to keep your license if you reformat the same computer. It may not be transferable to a new computer. Good price though.

I bought lifetime license through StackSocial for $35. The process was...not really a process. It was super straight forward. I'm happy with the purchase and all of the software works perfectly.

Showoff, lol. I'm still running Office 2000!
Be careful in both cases if you are transfering complicated spreadsheets - there are a few minor bugs in how they handle various features (ie the implementation varies slightly into the newer versions)
Nothing substantial, but need to check if you do anything complicated

Are people seriously paying a subscription fee to use Office? You can find these same keys on eBay for $12 and yes they are genuine keys not associated with any organization and are legit and legal as per the license's TOS/TOC. In addition, virtually any corporate entity you work for provides you free access to the entire office suite provided you remain as a student or employee of that organization.

Licenses are good forever.

When you get the license key, write it down and keep it for the day you have to reformat.

There are software utilities that will crawl through the registry looking for license keys and create a file containing them.

Are you still running Open Office or have you moved to Libre Office since Open was deprecated?
I started using Open Office about 15 years ago. Switched to Libre Office when it got bought. Never looked back.

It does everything I need to do. I have even convinced longtime MS users to switch. Yes, the icons look different and are in different places, but they are adapting !

Plumbob and Wkndwarrior29 - can you verify if the downloads are from Microsoft sites? I cannot not get confirmation from the sellers if the download files are from Microsoft or not as they will not share the links until I purchase the key.

I use whatever the free one is.

Have an Office 2013 copy that I bought before leaving the USAF. They had a discount program.

Tried to load it on a computer this summer and it no longer works. Says my license is invalid when I try to register it. (Won't allow it to function without)

Not a typo either, I have the email from Microsoft with the license code still.

Called them an said I have to buy a subscription for some crazy $$$. Yeah, no thanks!

The way these "resellers" work is to have you download directly from the Microsoft site and then register with the license key, however...

I'm fairly confident that these are not retail licenses that you are purchasing, and can be revoked at any time. "Back in the day", companies like this would illegally sell VLKs that were obtained from corporations, schools, etc, and it appears from what I have seen recently, these are probably VSS (formerly MSDN) subscription keys that are being resold. It may work for days, months, or years, it just depends on if the key gets flagged.

Just something to keep in mind if you choose to go this route.

Sumboodie,

Just curious, how long ago did you try registering Office 2013? Was the iso still available to download online?

I can't decide if I need this ... mac guy here.
Pretty sure I have a licensed copy of Office, not the subscription model
under "about" it says: "License: Retail License 2019". version 16.66.1 (as far as I can go until I update mac OS).

It is hard to figure out what is what; will I gain anything by updating to Pro 2021?

Depends what you use it for. From what I understand, real time collaboration is possible through One Note now, and Teams is more integrated into 2021, but it doesn't really matter if you are primarily a solo user.

From what you mentioned, it appears that you have a valid license based on the process MS describes for Macs...unfortunately the same cannot be said about the offer being discussed here with complete certainty, so proceed at your discretion.

For what it is worth, EOL (end of life) is October 2025 for Office 2019, and October 2026 for Office 2021, so you would only gain another year of support if you "upgrade".

@RavenHawk
Thanks for the input.
I will stick with what I have, don't need the OneNote / Teams stuff (I use it some for work but it is all thru "PWA"), my copy is just for personal stuff and payroll for the small business.

I didn't know about Libre Office. I was still running a legacy version of Open Office. Thank you.

I bit on this deal and is is genuine MS Office suite; thanks to OP. The last employer-offered version I could get at this price was Office 2010 and Outlook is so antiquated it won't work with modern ISPs like Yahoo (which my SO is tied to). I switched her to Libre and the she hated the spreadsheet app vs. real Excel.

This is tied to you MS login; it is one install per MS login/email (which sux, IMHO). I bought 2 licenses from this link - one for SO and one for me - just like the old HUP (Home Use Program) employer offers worked. No 360/monthly/yearly subscription BS.

Note: yahoo/sbcglobal/ATT Outlook needs a "secure app generated" password which is NOT your normal login password. Hint: don't use use yahoo/sbcglobal/att/etc - use a real SMTP IMAP mail server like gmail.

I bought a copy for Windows and my friend bought one for Mac. The links took us to Microsoft where we downloaded the software and completed the license process. Both copies are working fine.

There are other versions of Office on the site if you browse around.

Deal ends tonight.

For these types of licenses you download the software from Microsoft or if you already have a version on your computer you just add a license. At least back in the day most often the keys were obtained through the hardware recycling process where they strip the licenses - the keys I bought were retail licenses and I've never had issues. Of course it is possible that you get an educational or enterprise key that was not meant for redistribution.

This is the best deal on MS Office I've seen. You get MS Office Professional 2021 for $30 It's genuine - I bought a license and activated it through Microsoft.

This deal ends in 4 days.

Installed and working. Thanks for posting!

You might get a "lifetime" licence but it's not going to be much use when Microsoft pull the plug on support in 2026 as they move to a subscription based service. And MS 365 seems to be on the out and out, certainly in Europe.

Libre Office is a much better option, longer term and has no initial cost.

Just for fun I set up a virtual machine which has Word for Windows 2. Have some others with XP and Office 2000. All completely isolated from the internet, of course.

Looking for some help regarding the whole MS Office license. I have a laptop thats about 4 years old running windows 10. I cant remember if it had office included or not but think it didnt. I believe at some point our high school daughter had downloaded it thru her school using her .edu address, but again not 100% sure as I dont use this computer very often.

It has Word, excel, etc. on the computer and you can open them and use them. In the top right corner they have an icon to "sign in" and when opened it prompts for an email, phone, or Skype or to create an account. If I look at the existing "account" the product information is " Subscription Product Microsoft 365 Apps for enterprise" I have the same choice to Sign In or Change Liscense. I am trying to figure out exactly what we have and how best to proceed with it. My wife has used it a few times for work and has mumbled something about it not working correctly. Any help would be appreciated.
