Firstly I apologize if this has been discussed before.

I'm in hopes someone could provide me with some reliable (experienced) installers that work within the Northern Virginia area.

Here is a list of people that I have contacted via phone and email and have had no luck or response:

- Ken Spindle (no response to after his first initial response, called him etc and nothing)
- Big Brian - nothing
- Kenneth VanHoutte (you have to purchase a lift directly from them

I am ready to order the lift, but I have no way of getting a Fork Lift to my house to unload etc.

Any help would really be appreciated as my wife is losing her patience with all the cars on the driveway :willy_nil

Last year I bought a Challenger CL10v3 , from a dealer located 120 miles from me
The price for the lift was competitive with all the national retailers. My dealer took delivery of the lift from Challenger , then arranged to have it delivered and installed for me,
Two, Rotary Lift, Certified Installers arrived at my garage at 8am with my lift on a boom truck, it was unpacked in my driveway , then craned into the garage , it was installed, adjusted an running at 10:30am , installation included hydraulic oil an electrical hook-up, plus clean up and removal of packing materials. Total cost [delivery&install] was $600.
The whole process was conducted thru email only. I sent the dealer a check [50%] up front, and paid the installers the remainder in cash

Napa Auto Parts sells 2 post lifts , from a number of manufacturers, and may be able to recommend an installer

Is this a typical arrangement... buying the lift and then having a 3rd party install it?

Wouldn't this lead to finger pointing between/among the parties should something go wrong?

I'm a firm believer in the philosophy of ONTG.

Lift company sent lift to freight house, freight house loaded lift onto trailer. Backed trailer into garage and used a cherry picker and a few friend and assembled ourself. Easy peasy

My dealer was a Challenger authorized retailer. The installers were employee's of that dealer and had been trained and certified by Rotary Lifts . No 3rd party conflict and my warranty is registered with Challenger, a plus is, the company that sold and installed the lift , is there to assist, for future parts, service or warranty issues

I was more than capable of installing the lift myself , but with a $5k outlay ,seemed more prudent to leave it to the Pro's . I enjoyed a cup of coffee ,while watching the whole process. The attached picture was taken 3 hours after the lift was delivered

A DIY install is more likely to result in warranty issues

Right, I've done DIY installs. And I've had the retailer install. But I can't see why anyone would want a 3rd party to do the work. It just doesn't make any sense to me.

Something goes wrong and the seller points the finger at the installer, and vice versa. Consumer is stuck in the middle.

This is not an insignificant cash outlay for most people. And a major failure can result in serious injury or worse.

For those in the area that have performed their own pick-up and install, where is the best place to hire a flat bed trailer and where is the closest shipping terminal to NoVA?

I had the same issue with my BendPak delivery. I am in Southern Maryland, so I called some of the same people, to no avail.

I ended up having it delivered to a local lumber yard (local, not 84 or Lowe's), and they picked it off the delivery truck for me. Then loaded it on a roll-back tow-truck a few days later. Roll-back driver dropped it right in my driveway and we dismantled and installed it from there.

I bought from a local Bendpak distributor. They do installs but it isn't rocket surgery so I bought an engine hoist and used rotary drill with some of the money I saved. They brought it on a roll back and we unloaded right into the other side of my garage. I think I had my wife help for 2 minutes but did the rest myself over a couple evenings.62712da2a2f8a1d5e5ace27f0354c81e.jpg

Quick update, have secured an installer and ordered a lift. I'll post up pics soon once it's all completed.

Easiest to hire would be a roll-off tow truck. As for the closest shipping terminal that would depend on what trucking company it was shipped with they all have their own terminals.

Because of the timing and logistics involved, I had the dealer install my lift. Turns out the installer had a guy quit on them and was short handed. Gave me a discount on the install as I was the “helper”. Turned out great because now I know how to assemble one and it would be easy.

Buddy of mine ordered one of these:

https://www.atlasautoequipment.com/products/lifts/pro-9d

I think it was about $1400-1500 delivered to the curb, tractor trailer; no lift gate. He and I unloaded the pieces to his PU truck bed, then unloaded them in the garage. Just using leverage more than sheer weight lifting.

He and I installed the lift ourselves, and it went great, except don't use the junk expansion anchors that come with it. Do yourself a big favor, and go to Lowes or HD, and buy the epoxy and dispenser gun, and set them in epoxy.

His lift has been installed for more than 4 years now, and gets used a lot. No problems whatsoever.
