Damn, I didn't know that Sears still sold those. If a good sale rolls around I might buy it just for the mid-depth sockets and sell off or give the other pieces to my younger brother...

"AFAIK"
(mostly Internet slang) as far as I know

I'm working at my brothers shop: I am doing/working on everything from volkswagen new beetle brakes (master cylinder abs), trans/oil service, washing/detailing vehicles, prepping bedliners for trucks for spray bedlining application, installing auto/truck accessories, picking up auto parts, delivering finished vehicles, organizing the shop, installing toilet seats, visiting the local Matco man, catering a german meal for 30 people at my friends 60th birthday and hitting the local pawn shops/flea markets to "fill in" all those tools I "need"! :) I'm keeping pretty busy and am much happier! At the shop; I am doing "whatever it takes" to get things done and out the door; at this point, we aren't turning any work that we can do (or attempt to do) away! This isn't necessarily, a long term career but is keeping me busy for now and paying the bills! I have hope for the future and am happier for it! HOPE?..... priceless! :)

I have the Craftsman mid-depth sockets in metric. They can be pretty handy. I was doing some shocks the other day where a mid-depth socket was the best tool for the top stud. I could have used a deep socket but I probably would have had to remove the rear shelf instead of just popping it up a little.

I also have an SAE set of older Husky deep sockets that are almost like mid-length size. They are a bit longer than the Craftsman mid-length but significantly shorter than the Craftsman deep sockets. I think I have some Stanley sockets that are the same. I am not sure if the current ones are the same. Mine are marked "USA".

I picked up a set of the Craftsman mid-depth metric 3/8 6 point on sale at the local Sears 5-6 years ago. They are my favorites-the first sockets I reach for. Usually eliminates needing that short extension and just enough length if there is some stud or bolt end sticking through a nut. I too have noticed that they are not in the store anymore.

I have the Craftsman sets, and I save them til I need them. I originally used them quite a bit more, but since they are not in the store, or sold separately (never checked out the mentioned set), it will be a PITA to get them replaced. (hopefully never need to)

PITA ? You could not get them replaced if you broke one I do not believe! I just use mine as I normally would though.

I think the only way to get them replaced under warranty; would be through the catalog and have them sent to your house. The question is, wether the catalog has the open stock to do this; I guess, the only way to know is to call the sears tool catalog. I haven't seen open stock at my local sears or any others in my area, for that matter...

SCORE!
I just won an ebay auction for a SO 6pt semi-deep set, 8-12, 14-19... $73 shipped.
Dunno' if its missing the 13mm, or if the set didnt include one in the first place. But either way, Im happy.
Just one of those sets Ive needed for a while but never took the time to track a set down.

Thanks again for everyone's help!

Great deal! I have the SO SAE semi-deeps and they are quite handy. Also good for using them on a stubby ratchet to get your knuckles out of the way...

I have some metric & std. old Blackhawk USA deep sockets and they run about an inch shorter than my Cmans. Worth looking around for used.

It's funny that this came up. Yesterday I was helping a guy and he was using mid depth Craftsman sockets. I never knew that Craftsman had them. They are a good working length.
Now there is something new on the wishlist.

anybody have cman part numbers?

Metric: 10mm:43230, 12mm: 43232, 13mm: 43233, 14mm:43234, 15mm:43235, 16mm:43236, 17mm: 43237, 18mm:43238, 19mm: 43239

SAE: 3/8:43220, 7/16:43221, 1/2:43222, 9/16:43223, 5/8:43224, 11/16:43225, 3/4:43226, 13/16:43227, 7/8:43228

All sockets have the code GK on them and measure 1 and 5/8 inches overall. They stopped making them more than a few years ago.

Has anyone purchased the 009-34826 123pc 3/8" drive set that is supposed to come with the Cman mid-length sockets? I was wondering if they are still GK series and match the part numbers that Fedwrench posted. I have a lone 15mm and like it, I would consider doing what Mike83 mentioned. (Mike83, let me know if you ended up doing this)

I can find the S&K's in 1/4 drive Semi deep... but no luck on 3/8 drive at all.

Does S&K make a 3/8 drive semi deep or is it on to other makers for that?

SK 3/8 semi deep is in the impact section only. dont make a chrome version for some reason.

I think the reason SK doesn't offer chrome semi deep sockets is that their regular chrome deep sockets are 1.75 inches long up though 1/2 or 13mm before jumping to 1.86 and then 2.5 inches or so for the other sizes. I guess they might figure they don't need offer them. I think SK would be better off making all of their deep sockets like their extra deep type starting at 2.5 inches long, add the chrome semi deeps in 8-19mm and 5/16-7/8. I think they could sell more than a few but, that's just me.

I have the SO semi deeps, and I love them. They were the first SO sockets that I bought, and they are really nice.

I purchased the Sears 123 piece set online in March. The mid-length sockets in the set are all GK have a richer smoother feeling chrome finish then the rest of the sockets which are G2.

Guys,

Last week, I purchased from Rob Lee of South Bay Tools (in California) the following Ko-ken (Japanese) mid-depth sockets:

- Model# RS3300X/8; 3/8" drive mid-depth socket set (8,10,11,12,13,14,17,19mm); $26.00

If you would like to order them from Rob, send him an e-mail at "[email protected]".
