Hi Quick 86,

Just a thought, if you haven't already, you might want to cut a vent or two into that heater duct running through your ceiling. might get you even better working temp in the garage.
That would be totally against building code. If you penetrate the duct you would allow a fire to spread to the upstairs really easy.
The only way you can do that is put a fire door/damper in each penetration, that would be very expensive.

Good point. That and the wife would kill me when I fire up the Mustang in the middle of winter and the smell of extremely rich exhaust goes right through the ducts....:spit:

I finally got some pics - not exactly detailed pics, and it shows just how disorganized it is currently ( :( ) but I am working on it. I am going to be adding peg board to the back wall above the bench and am trying to figure out where I want to mount the monitor for a shop PC......i'm thinking I am going to wall mount it for the ability to keep it up off the work surface and odds are it won't get nearly as dirty/nasty/broken up on the wall as it will down on the bench.

As soon as they are done uploading to flickr I will add them to the post.

I'm also trying to figure out how I want to hardline in my air compressor. Yes, it's only a 26 gallon Husky piece but for me it works perfect. And for the price it was awesome ($180 NEW.... It was the display unit that sat up on the rack for people to look at, came with all the accessories, box, and manual for that price......).... My MAC Impact gun works great off of it.

Anyways, on my to do list is:

- Pegboard
- Stool
- Anti Fatigue mat (trying to decide which)
- Acquire/Install garage PC
- Figure out where my signs are going that I have acquired through the years....
- Buy more tools. :lol_hitti

Updates coming!

Oddly enough over the winter I haven't done **** for my garage inside aside from buy a power strip from Harbor Freight that ROCKS and make a mess of it working on my Mustang. :willy_nil

Strangely, instead of staying inside in the warmth of the garage, I have been outside this past week and cut down the 60 foot tall white pine that overshadowed my garage and driveway doing nothing more than drop sap ALL over EVERYTHING.:mad:

Next I am taking down the "mature landscaping" that the previous owners left of the 20 foot tall arborvitaes at the corner of my garage that are overgrown and drooping. Then comes the driveway widening for a walk path up the side of my house to the fence and if need be it will give me a little extra width to park off to the side. :bounce:

Pics coming, but I have since added another lower cabinet to the garage to house my garage PC with added storage below. The drawers are being utilized for one side as a junk drawer (aka: nuts, bolts, screws, etc etc) in containers and the other as a resource drawer with a scratch pad, owners manuals, markers, pens, pencils, the home of my tape measures that always go missing, and band aids....

I also did a small amount of plumbing for my air compressor so I can properly drain it and it also gives more torque to my gun right off the bat as I am using 1/2" pipe.

Pics will arrive in the coming days.

In regards to my other project that is never finished, my Mustang....I have been acquiring parts to turn it in to a bit of a road racer. I spent way too much time this summer at the road tracks with my good friend Alex and became addicted. It's ditching its factory brakes for a new 5-lug setup with 13" dual pistons off of a Cobra in the front and GT brakes in the rear....Those should be able to stop my sub-3000lbs car pretty damned quick compared to the factory 10" pieces of ****.

I noticed a big difference upgrading to '87 & up brakes at the big end while drag racing over the stock '86 brakes.

Motown for the win............sucribing ;)

Yup! :) I lurk more than I post.

Yeah, everyone says that. I'm going for that extreme braking ability of the 5-lug Cobras :D

guess I have missed this one. nice to see the progress.

Thanks!

Garage PC is setup and working WELL! Pics will def. need to be taken to update....

As soon as I am done putting a new engine in my daily driver...

Since last year I have added:

60 Gallon Husky air compressor, grinder, media blasting cabinet, another little tool box, and an oven for powder coating. I must get some pics but I am in the middle of a garage reorganization and its not presentable in the least bit!!

I've been adding some signage here and there as well. Becoming more of a tool ***** as well as I picked up a Milwaukee M12 cordless combo kit to add to my collection. Really want to pick up some flex head wrenches eventually. Love the X-Beams I got last year tho.

I really want to find a solution for all my chargers though. Something wall mounted I am thinking... I'll come up with something..

As for the Mustang? It's still being reworked.

Here's a couple pics I have taken over the past year...

Then learned while redoing the rear end for road course action in my Mustang that the car didn't know it's own power... These are Lakewood lower control arms...NOT ebay specials...

It did hook well on the drag radials I guess. lmao.

Then at a garage sale I found this --- my grandfather was one of the highest at the company. He invented many machines to help Brass Craft grow and become more productive. He managed their manufacturing for them, improved upon designs for manufacturing, and was a VERY smart man. When I found this - I had to have it.

It's now my nut/bolt/screw holder...

Since September though, I have done nothing but been loving on this little guy and working. My garage has been neglected. I am hoping to get back down there and enjoy my cave more soon though.

I have some projects to begin for him, my car to finish, and want to be able to teach him LOTS of things as he gets older.

Woo Hoo, another Buckeye fan in Michigan.

Congrats on the little one.

I used a couple of shelving brackets and a piece of pine board to make a shelf for my chargers. I cut a notch in the back for the cords.

I have LOTS of updates to make but this has by far been the most fun thing to build, lmao. Best garage stool ever! Sitting at it's lowest setting in the fuzzy *** picture, but you get the idea.

Well I keep adding tools and equipment to my garage but not space so it was deemed time to renovate my shed to fit ALL lawn and garden equipment. I'm using my tablet since my phone is about dead but the pics of the roof will show the biggest issue it had.

Long story short they used decent materials but the roof was an after thought for whomever built it. I had been planning on replacing it (the shed completely) but decided to just redo the roof and renovate the inside to be more useful. I ripped off the old roof completely and got down new wood plus paper and drip edge before it started raining on me. Had some issues with lack of structural roof support and things not bring square but it has come together with some reinforcements and adjustments. It is VERY sturdy now. Next comes sealing the doors and installing shingles.

I'll post a before and current pic. Its my first roofing job.

When its done I hope to reclaim the garage space currently inhabited by my lawn mower, wife's bicycle, shovels, rakes, etc etc.

I'm also going to build a fold down shelf for occasional use when my bench isn't fitting the bill with a nice piece of butcher block I acquired for free.

Shed re-roofing complete. Long story short the manufacturer of the shed was cheap as HELL. This should last me a long long time. Next year it will get a fresh coat of paint for sure. This should help me alleviate my space issues now that I can trust it to remain dry. It was my first time doing any roofing.

Looks good enough, as long as it is keeping everything dry it is good.

When I saw the picture of your son first thing in my mind was "that's Buckeye colors". I grew up in Columbus but am a Purdue grad. Congrats on the new addition.

Thanks. The roof was torn off completely and redone from the framing up. Siding needs repainted baaaaad but now is the wrong time of year for that. Until now I've only used it to store scrap wood and my lawn mower and snow blower. Now I'll put all my shovels, rakes, leaf blower, etc in there. I've got a before pic I'll get up in a moment.

My boy is one year old now. Still shocks me too say that. Where the hell has the time gone. Once I get this **** out of my garage so I'm not falling over it all I'll take some pics.

Well i have to admit. I must have displaced a bunch of mice from the shed because immediately after i did that i had my garage open for a solid day while i moved everything and they decided to make my garage their home. I have killed 6 of them and have now placed live traps and poison.

I also sold my mini fridge from my garage. It was taking up some valuable real estate and i didn't use it as much as i could have.

Once I clean up everything I'll have pics of the changes I am making. Im also thinking about how i want to build - or rebuild - my work bench. I did the top out of mdf i had lying around and as you can guess with grease and oil from car parts that it has absorbed its not in the best of shape. Thinking about a butcher block top or building a 2x6 top and clamping/gluing/screwing one together on a 4x4/2x4 frame.

Holy **** it has been a while since I have updated this. Not sure where to begin.

Since last year I have been able to add a nice Hobart welder to my garage. Nice mig welder to learn with. I put it to good use doing a bit of chassis work and stiffening on my Mustang already. I also fixed a landscape decoration of my moms that got knocked over and broken.

I came up with a cheap way to prevent over spray when doing paint work in my garage in the form of extra tall shower curtains.

r9n2WOD.jpg

I wall mounted my heater.

And came up with a design for my new work bench. It will be 12 feet long and made out of steel. A nice project for the welder. :)

This is probably my favorite build or addition though. I love having my son and dogs in the garage with me. And they like being down there. But I really hate being in the garage with the doors closed unless it is the middle of winter.

So I built these panels out of 1x4, glued and screwed together, with nylon chicken wire inbetween. They are 30 inches high and 36 1/2 inches wide. And they are hinged together so they fold up nice and easy to store.

So now I can open my door(s) and unfold these between them, and it gives me the barrier I need to keep the dogs from going out and the kid from sneaking out also. Although, I do want to figure out a way so when I have it up I can attach it to the wall so he cant push it aside (when he figures that out)...

gwI4SXA.jpg

I'm in dire need of some new garage doors though. I have been watching to try and find a deal for some nice insulated ones. I'd love windows in the top panels to allow more light in for the winter months.

Thanks! It's nice seeing other Michigan folks on here! My garage is nothing compared to most but it's my den/cave. This year was rough and I didn't get to spend much time on it. I've had to piece things together since we bought the house and this year I tore my right knee at work and was pretty much useless from the beginning of summer until November when I finally got done with physical therapy and back to work.

But last night...err this morning.. I picked up another husky toolbox 46" from home depot. Replacing the two small ones with that to match my other husky box. I like their product. Serves me well. And will be perfect beneath the workbench I am going to build out of steel at the end of December when my plant is down for the holidays.

I'm trying to organize and get more space too. I was informed by my parents I will be acquiring all their power tools when they get a smaller house so I will be in need of more space. Eek. Time for a bigger shed!

I'm about to go out and snap some pics while I hang Christmas lights so I can finally have it up to date with its current state of chaos.

One thing I forgot to mention was a cheap storage solution I acquired to help separate things but keep them shut and out of the way without taking up too much space depth wise.

I purchased these from a brewery/distillery in town. They work great for keeping books/manuals tucked away as well as gas cans, bicycle equipment, etc etc....

Well. It was time to put my welder to use and throw together my new workbench that will also serve as a light duty welding bench. Here's the progress pics. Only thing left is to figure out how much of a top I want as far as thickness goes.

So with my kiddo I haven't been able to accomplish as much as I used too... but it's worth it. As I sit down for a moment while in here I figured I'd take a pic. Doing some clean up and sorting of projects. It's a mess.... while my son plays and has a show on split screen with football for me on the other half.

Alright. Time for a typed update. So I recently discovered a hidden outlet underneath the utility sink on the other side of a wall. And it's on the same breaker as the rest of my garage.

And that's Good news! As that wall has no outlets so I'll be moving it so I can have more power to my garage!

I'm still behind from getting projects done around the house since I went down last year with knee surgery due to an injury. Had some pieces that were too far damaged removed and it has made some tasks pretty crappy. The worst part is the loss of strength in it on top of some lost stability... made for carrying heavy materials quite difficult. But I digress....

I've been mudding and taping the drywall to finish it off. I've got some basic white primer going up and hoping that the white walls and ceiling will help me out with lighting.

Two weeks ago I found some Phillips brand LED 4 foot tube lights that are plug n play with or without ballasts. Being I have limited time where I can do tasks like this I decided to leave my ballasts in and try these out. I must say I am very impressed and happy. The lighting output is so much better than the fluorescent t8 bulbs that they replaced. A pack of 10 from Menards cost me 60 bucks.

I also replaced my garage doors with some nice clopay insulated units. I added windows to the second door and my daytime natural light is amazing. I did opt for the privacy glass as my paranoia about theft gets the best of me sometime.

I really want to find a way to stash my shop vac out of sight and in turn out of mind, but I'm not coming up with anything really good. As I type this I wonder if it would fit in the cabinet that is currently wasted space occupied by my chainsaw which could be in the shed. I could run some piping and create a dust collection system of sorts I suppose. I'll have to look in to that tomorrow. Anyone have any ideas??

qaxHjUsh.jpg

Thats probably my most recent picture of my work area. But even then tons has been added and or changed.

I also took a scrap piece of flat stock and bent it to make a battery holder for my Ryobi 18v batteries. Works GREAT.

So here is the most current shot with my garage dog hanging out.

I really want to finish painting it but don't really want to have to deal with firing up my heater just to paint in the frigid Michigan winters.

So I'm at a point where I might be selling some of my gear that I haven't used in years. Specifically my sand blast cabinet and powder coating gun and oven. Once I finished the chassis work on my Mustang I haven't needed it...

Heck I'd have to remeasure. I built it so it was a little under elbow height for myself. At 6'2 I hate leaning down to a short bench so I made one my size. I love it.

Going to make a wooden one next to run majority of the length of the wall.

So I have been pretty inactive. Well, lurking....

LOTS has happened.

Lets see. Built a custom front end for my car, replaced 2 of the vehicles in the fleet, got my other bench built, built a bench for my parents new house, found a bunch of upper cabinets last month to finally go across my back wall with....

vwn5EQT.jpg

The Ryobi is out front and center, but my Milwaukee M12 is my go to set and is off to the side. I finally ordered a bunch of M18 goodies though after finally using their 1/2" impact.

Built and painted this in the garage. Very happy with my Dr. Frankenstang work on this car.

And lastly, sadly, 1 year ago today I lost my best friend/garage dog GS/Rottie mix, Mercedes, at 12 years old.

But I will post more details later. Just wanted to check back in.

FINALLY have some time to sit at my PC. I fixed my pics above (I hope).

Anyways, on my to buy list at the top is a hoist. Due to height constraints I will be going with a scissor lift. And even more detailed, unless someone can convince me otherwise, I am going to be ordering a Quickjack. I think the ability to take it to the track with me for brake adjustments/repairs, fluid exchanges, etc in the pits will be very beneficial.

Really hoping there is a sale on black friday.

I am also going to get myself a new M18 light, and an M18 super sawzall hopefully.

I'm also looking in to adding a micro PC down there to be able to stream and research information with. Will have to find a fun way to mount a monitor. The old TV setup was a bit overkill, LOL.

OH, what else has happened in my garage. I converted the old foxbody to a Holley EFI system, LOVING it. It's another reason I'd like a PC in the garage. Maybe I should get a cheap laptop instead.....

And today I did invest in a new snowblower that makes my old Toro powerlite look like a childs toy. :D

And the dog tax with the new(er) girl, Shelby, and Howard.

Re: Mid-Michigan Garage (Blue Collar Garage)

I had been trying to figure out how I wanted to save space for my M12/M18 charger and not have it take up valuable bench space. But also didnt want it difficult to access in a cabinet. So I had a brainstorm and ran with this... mounted it to the door of the cabinet and used a hole saw to run the cord down to the outlet.
