im looking to pick up a diag code reader/scanner/scan tool for the late model stuff i work on. i dont make a living from my tools so i will not be shelling out 5k for a snap on scanner. im looking to go between 175-300, and used is an option. suggestions?

I've been very pleased with my Innova 3160 OBD II scan tool so far. It reads ABS codes and is CAN compliant. No OBD I though.

look at the matco mps700 it has a built in troubleshooter with the top 10 reported repairs for the dtc you can also view some live data and get abs codes i think i paid approx 350.00 can for mine a year ago
i belive bluepoint also has a model out now at the upper end of your price range with the same capabilities

5k IS mid range for snap-on. 10k will get you to the top!!!:scared:

the matco scanner was new off the truck keep in mind it isnt a 5000.00 scan tool
i am a tech at a gm store but sometimes see other makes and the shop didnt have any other scan tool other than tech2 we were sending out other makes
the matco tool works well for the money
the troubleshooter feature was the selling point for me

Can you tell me more about the MPS700, not much out there on reviews. I like the "free updates" feature but want some more details. The price seems almost too good for just that feature alone.

I bought autoenginuity with the ford bundle. AE alone is within your price range but the ford bundle was an extra 100-150. You have to use a laptop with it but I am alright with that. I think it gives the most features for the best price. Has live data and bunch of other tests you can do with it. Might not be for everyone but I am very happy with it.

Look for reviews on the OTC 3111. OTC makes the MPS700 for Matco & the units look the same. I'm trying to verify if it's the same unit, but can't get a straight answer.

I have an Innova 3100 that I have used to read codes. I have borrowed a friends ProScan interface for a laptop that works well monitoring sensors real time, so you can actually see what's going on. I just decided to order a ProScan for myself.

we have a ton of them at work, but in your price range its fairly limited.
The innova 3100 is fantastic i used to use one every day to pull codes, it clears as well and has plenty of features
i use the Autoenginuity, its a lot more complex. its got a ton of features i bought the generic basic package and have had a huge amt of success with it so far. Streams live data and makes O2 sensor diagnosis a breeze. but there is a learning curve to it and you have to play with it frequently to find what it can and cant do

for the home guy working on his own stuff id vote with the other guys on an innova. Dead simple realiable effective and fairly cheap
