"Midamerica Garage Doors - Comments"?

A while back, I started a thread on the various brands of garage doors available and got some good feedback. We're building a new house and two garages with a total of three doors (one 18x8 and two 9x8). A new brand of door has been bid and it's Midamerica and the version offered is their Vantage model with steel on both sides and insulation in between and it's a 2" thick door. Any comments, good or bad to offer on this brand?
Thanks,
Mike T.

Upndown - Same here, we were just getting used to hearing the other brands like Wayne Dalton and Amarr but another local General Contractor said he had used Guaranteed Door Service in Prescott many times and suggested we give them a call. They got back to my GC with an estimate and offered up the Midamerica 'Vantage' door which is a 2"/insulated/steel-steel door. The rest of the bid had the same hardware we had spec'd on the Amarr Doors (Liftmaster 8500, etc). I'm hoping to meet up with that first contractor so I can see the doors in person but haven't made contact yet. By the way, the Amarr Doors previously bid were two different doors, one at 2" the other at 1 3/8".

Mike, I used to work with the guy that started Guaranteed Door. I checked their website, seems to be under development :dunno:

I called a buddy in the door business for some input on Midamerica, he also had never heard of them! I agree with You, go out and kick some tires. Also question replacement section availability. A good door co can't help you much if the sections are not available. Wish I could be of more help. Good luck

I have exclusively used Clopay for the last 10 years or so. Top notch. Here is mine that replaced my barn doors. This one is R15? and wind rated. By far the beefiest I have ever installed.

Upndown - The 'contact name' I was given for the Guaranteed Door outfit in Prescott is 'John' but have no idea if he might have been around when you worked there. I also noticed that the website for Guaranteed Door Service isn't fully functional but did find the Midamerica site and their doors look okay but just as you suggest, I'm hoping to see the door in person before making a decision.
Tman - I did find one vendor in my area that handles Clopay Doors, but I'll have to double check our list of door vendors we've already contacted to see if they're on the list.

I think if you look at them in person you will be impressed. I did not know about them until I talked to an old HS pal that is our local dealer. They are well built and blow away anything you will find at the big box stores. The one pictured is the latest, I have done 8-10 of them in recent years.

MANUFACURED JUNK! Don't buy from them! I got a door from them, and I noticed that it was remarkably flimsy. It seized after very little use, and got all crumpled up, and when I removed the insulation panels, I found that not a single stile had been attached to the panels! Not a single one! So what I had was unsupported, 16 foot panels! I had a two garage two door company come out, and they both agreed that the door was defective. I contacted MidAmerca Door, and first they denied any responsibility. After dealing with the regional sale manager, and sending him pictures of the door, he agreed to replace the panels. However, they were not going to pay for any labor, and that was the last I heard. No return calls, and no panels. MidAmerica Door is, as far as I'm concerned, a third rate company, staffed by third rate people, selling third rate products. Incidentally, neither of the garage door companies that came over deal with them. As a manufacturer myself, I get furious at this kind of operation because it gives American manufacturers a bad name.
