Weld Aid spray. Nozzle dip. Naked. Name the method of your madness.

I keep mine bare and occasionly pry off a ring of spatter from the nozzle ID. If i run any 98/2, I use the dip.

Birthday suit for me and if I notice the tip getting too crusty I bang it on a hard surface or the ground until the crust falls off.

Were still talking about welders, right....?

More often than not, I don’t use dip. A good set of Welpers takes care of any boogers in Quick fashion. I use anti spatter spray in areas where getting a grinder or wire wheel in would be difficult. A flat chisel in my hand will usually knock off most of the BBs, using a hammer and chisel for the stubborn ones. Haven’t seen any finish adhesion issues using either. PAM cooking spray or WD40 will sub as anti spatter in a pinch.

I find that most of the available nozzle dips aren't very effective for more than a few minutes, so I usually don't bother. I have tried a ceramic spray that seems to hold up a tad better than the gel or aerosol, but only a bit longer.

I have a can of whatever spray is on the counter at Airgas, when I'm there for wire. If I forget to spray I get boogers. If I remember, my consumables last way longer.

The ceramic spray works pretty good for me ...half way through a 2nd 10 lb roll and using same tip. Had a couple of burn backs that didn’t stick

Bare naked for me. I just use my welding pliers to bang on the nozzle to get rid of junk. Once in a while I remove the nozzle and insert the pliers and rotate to get rid of any build up that wont fall out on its own.:willy_nil:shocking:

I also use a reamer and a pliers. Tried dips and sprays, not a fan.

Naked!

I bought a can of that spray with my first mig welder (1986 I think), still have it and it feels full. Doubt it has any propellant in it by now, maybe I should get rid of it?

I dip on occasion. Not very often and ONLY when the gun nozzle is hot. As I am stopping for a few moments to either rearrange a part or setup for the next weld I will skinny dip so as not to have a heavy buildup of dip on the nozzle. I then let it drip off before I squeeze the trigger again.

Never have sprayed parts or used any of the aerosol sprays to control spatter. I'm a firm believer in playing with settings to control spatter vs. anti-spatter spray.

These are pretty much my thoughts as well. If you're getting tons of spatter, something isn't right with your settings.

I dip and use anti spatter spray. But not all the time.

If I'm doing a paying job I don't leave any type of spatter anywhere. Anti spatter spray makes that very easy.

I also use anti spatter when welding outside using flux core stuff.

So yes. Sometimes. But not always.

If I do any galvanized welding I always do . I clean as best as possible so dipping does help.

Naked for me. The nozzle is friction fit on my Hobart.. Pull it off, one to two seconds with the welpers, on we go.

Maybe I will try Gel in the future but for now I see no reason to start.

No Dipping for me, I tend to get a lot of porosity for some reason when I dip, I do occasionally spray some anti spatter or pam though...
