Those torch mounted lights work okay for awhile, but eventually get damaged being so close to the work area. They also get bumped out of alignment when you forget about them and try to put the torch into a holder.

We've had the best luck with Streamlight stylus flashlights. They clip on the top of a 3M Speedglas weld hood and are just the right length to point where you are looking. We've tried less expensive alternatives but the clips just aren't as strong and can slide around on the hood when bumped. We've also tried using the shorter rechargeable Microstreams, but they aren't long enough to point down at the work without tipping your head down.

Didn't know they existed, now I'm shopping...

I use a head lamp in my steady hand, the light makes a huge difference when needed. I just bunch up the headband in my fist with light on my knuckles.

These do work. I have used them for 25 or so years. Here's the key to keep them working well: most come with replaceable lenses which is good. I go one step further and make tear off lenses that cover the lens itself. Once it becomes degraded, I peel one off and I then have a fresh clear lens. I layer 4 pieces together and remove as needed. I use an optic cover material that is available on Amazon and I'm sure other distributors

I use the Harbor Freight lights. Piece of bead rolled stainless and hose clamps to mount on the mig gun. Removed the straps from headlamp and used 3M command strips to mount it on my helmet.

I buy/use these cheap goose neck/mag base/LED lights.
Easily to eventually damage but cheap enough to toss.
Buy a few extras, I use them around the garage for task lighting rather than bright overhead lights.

I thought about buying one of those for a long time but I have found those little black Cree LED flashlights clipped to my welding helmet and pulled to a tight focus work awesome. I'll take some pictures when I go out to blow snow.

I have one. It doesn't work that well for me. Not powerful enough light, does hold on the gun well,(Miller 251), and gets in the way often enough it's a frustration. I either hold a flashlight in my other hand or use a magnet base converted, large shop light. Thinking about trying the Miller add on light kit that was mentioned above.

Interesting idea. I haven't used one myself but often use either a headlamp on my hood, a magnetic flashlight positioned nearby, or a Milwaukee M12 rocket light.

Also as a Boilermaker, we all do this alot on jobs that are always in dark areas.
I have glued a cheap headlight to the front of a welding helmet. It didn't affect the auto-lense. It worked great when welding boiler tubes.
