MiG welder liner size

Is there any reason I can’t use 0.024 wire in a mig gun that has a .030 liner?

I know I’ll need to change the contact tip and flip the feed roller size but see no reason for issues with the liner although there are different part numbers for liner sizes based upon wire diameter.

Basically my mig has a spool of 0.030 in it now but I have a spool of 0.024 on the shelf and would like to use it versus buying another spool of wire. I’m not a welder so I don’t have a ton of experience with what is what

Back in the day when doing robotic aluminum welding we'd match everything w/ factory (Miller) recommendations; steel wire is much much less "sticky" (don't even need a push-pull gun), so I'd give it a try.

Switched back & forth for decades, no problem. There is also teflon liner available for Lincoln for aluminum wire, but its inferior to a spool gun.

you'd probably be just fine running the .030 liner with .024 wire. I've done it a few times with .025 wire in a .035 liner when I needed to weld a little bit of some sheet metal. Use the correct size tip though.
