I usually buy from lowes or from my welding supplier. Seems like once you factor in shipping its just cheaper that way. The only time I would consider online is if it was an unusual wire that I could find anywhere else (Hastelloy X for example).

HF sells it too. In my experience, I'd rather get it from the local welding supply because you're more likely to get a quality metal. How much to you save if your welds are full or porosity or weak.

I usually buy local as well. HTPweld.com usually have good prices on a number of things. Haven't priced their wire specifically but it's worth a shot.

I'd just google what you're after and see what comes up honestly.

Cyberweld.com has free shipping in the US and seemed cheaper than any of the big box stores plus no tax.

Sometimes, 'cheaper' is cheaper.

Sometimes, it is more of a PITA, because it is cheap-chit.

YMMV.

I go for a 'name' brand wire, cause I can't afford the time and money to deal with cheap-chit. No HF wire for me, no thanks.

Want cheap? Just search the web, try e-bay, etc, etc.

There are many decent online welding stores now. I use weldingsupply.com the most but for wire I usually wind up with weldingdepot.com - BUT for a 44# roll of ER70S-6 I call all 3 of the local welding supply stores and buy locally to save shipping.

BTW, save those little paks of desiccant that come with many shipped items and tuck them into a baggie along with your precious rolls of wire, when the roll isn't actually mounted on your welder. Rust is a real bummer on welding wire!

Also, occasionally you can buy a used MIG welder that comes with a lot of wire, and resell the MIG welder for about the same money, keeping the wire. I haven't done that myself much with MIG wire, but it sure is the way I got all my brazing rod $tock. (buying and selling o/a gear that is)
