Doesn’t everyone have one of these for home use? Or is it finally time for me to admit I have a problem?

A spring compressor is on my buy list.

I highly recommend this one. Set up takes about 1 minutes, crank the handle down and lock the spring, remove bolt and then you can slowly release the tension. And with it being floor mounted you can move it where you want, and not take up any wall space for something you’ll use maybe once a year.

I would think if you had more than (1) of the same exact spring compressor you would have a problem. But if you had (4) different spring compressors, you would be in the clear.

Why too many tools? I only see one, and what else would you use to do that job?

Some people think I make poor decisions sometimes because I buy the equipment I need but it would be cheaper to have the work done somewhere. I am looking at J2534 programming equipment because I want to be able to do that myself. Will I ever break even on the cost? Probably not. But so what? It is a hobby, a pleasure, ... how many people make money from a camera they buy to take family/vacation photos?

Not too many tools, just not enough storage area issues. I just bought the big blue OTC clamshell compressor. Kicking my **** for not doing it years ago. I've actually thought about starting a tool rental business for my more obscure tools.

The OTC clamshell is nice, this is the one I have, though the one posted by the OP looks very interesting and easier to use.

It's maybe a little overkill for a home shop, but those cheap spring compressors scare the **** out of me. If you're going to go a little overkill on something, doing it on something that makes you safer seems like a great place to do it.

OP, you may get banned from Garage Journal for even broaching the idea of having too many tools...... That's not even possible is it???

Thank you very much. That is quite a bit cheaper than the OTC and you are correct it is more or less a once a year device. Maybe a few more times once a couple friends find out you have one.

I've never trusted the ******** type (but never had a spring get away on me yet either).

I got a kick out of this one (somewhere in the motherland?)

Looks like it could get away on you though, maybe need a shoe on the ground.

i always see these types on ebay for cheap brand new. are they the same as these?

Couldn’t say, I didn’t get this one off ebay. I bought this back in 2005ish, don’t remember from where.

I don’t buy the cheapest, there’s times that a quality tool is just safer. Plus catching a coil spring to the chin doesn’t seem like a good time.

No such thing as too many tools. I don't own any vehicles with struts...but if I did...I'd have one too.

You need my old Tee shirt: " He that dies with the most tools, wins."
