I have a dual swing Mighty Mule system FM502. This system is one of the original systems… it’s old . Of course no parts available or support. I bought up several replacements parts over the years and would like to keep the system mainly because the wiring is under my concrete driveway. I would like to have both the actuator arms rebuilt. Does anyone know of someone or someplace that would do this?
Now of course I’ve had to replace things to to lighten, ware&tare ect. . But I’m not sure that I have the smarts or tools to do this myself.
Thanks in advance
Randy

Welcome to the forum…

I too had an ancient Mighty Mule system and got to where you are. Finally just went and got and all new LiftMaster opener. WAY BETTER equipment and system. No issues at all in snow country. Sorry about what you are dealing with but I think you may be SOL.

Look into other brands that can use the wiring you already have under your driveway. Or investigate using the existing wires to pull new wires. Or systems that can use the existing wiring for power, and maybe use wireless for the controls.

We have now had a US Automatic gate opener for several times as long as our several Mighty Mules lasted. We blew more money on the Mighty Mules than the USA opener cost. I'm sure there are various other good brands. But Mighty Mule isn't one. Stop throwing money at that POS. No matter how many times you fix it, it will still be garbage. You don't have to go high-end, just go decent.

Thanks for your reply.. I just hate to saw up my concrete driveway!!
Water jet conduit under it like others said. Dig a decent sized pit on either side and take your time. You will be happy to get rid of that piece of ****…trust me.

Look into various makes and see what they require for wiring and see what can be reused,

Don't know much about gate openers but it seems like the wiring could be reused. Is it the vehicle sensor under the drive that's the concern or other wiring? And I see that same model number still for sale - you say no parts are available but it looks like they are.

This.

OP - Are you worried about the proximity loop? You don't need to tear anything up to reuse the loop.

Switch to a single gate and keep all the wiring on one side? I know, easier said than done. I started out with one of those gto/mighty mules and quickly learned what a pos they are. Went to a Liftmaster dc unit and never looked back. Having a gate is a pain in the *** in some ways but in my opinion it's well worth the trouble.

The Mighty Mules are such junk that you'll be money ahead to simply save up and get a good opener and be done with it. I repaired our MM numerous times, even kept the appropriate tools in my truck so I wouldn't have to go back to the house to get them when the MM once again quit working. Finally, I gave up and bought a good brand [Apollo] and have replaced the battery once in ten years [solar charged]. I gave the parts of the MM to a neighbor who has one and he chortled that his MM had been great for "over six months now," then I was driving past his place and noticed the gate propped open with a 2 x 4 and it has been like that now for some years.

The mighty mule system is very affordable and you can be educated on how to use yours. Do a google search on Mighty mule gate opener motor replacement and watch Mr. Salts video--My old mighty mule- GTO 2000 opener is over 12 years old, i also have a 1000 series and the 500 series-I also have an old tech friend in tallahassee who worked for them--Watch that video
